So I'm curious about the difficulty/cost involved in removing the smog "accessories" from an '85 (carbed) 5.0 mustang motor...? It's going in a "pre-smog" machine and I'd like to get as much HP out of it as I can, plus smog stuff gets so #!$%&* confusing (to me?)
If you change the intake manifold you automatically eliminate the EGR valve and any excess vacuum ports that you won't need. That gets rid of 99% of the **** on '80s motors.
Pull that big, heavy, ugly smog pump off it too. Should be on the lower p***enger side. Someone (Steeda I think) makes a crankcase ventilation system that bolts into it's place. Could net you an extra 30ish hp.... Something to consider. BTW...if you want to ditch the reverse flow water pump and still run a serpentine belt you can use the crank, water pump and alt pulleys from a 302 or 351W (cop car) crown vic with just the alt bracket from a late 60's to 70's 302 or 351W. It's all bolt on.
