Les Firestein - For 17 years known as the Ford Man in East Bay. A great promotional video pimping Firesteins 1932 Ford sweepstakes. I love the language used and its always kind of surreal to see multiple stock... To read the rest of this post from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Anybody know what the spoke covers are on the 3W near the end? I didn't know they had them for the 18"ers so early. It's a cool video to be sure!
Seeing those Oakland locations was so cool. I always love getting a glimpse of what places I know used to look like! People still race on Fish Ranch Road (and it's still a good test of what a car is made off!)
Yep, Cool little window back. Theaters giving away Fords....going to see a movie was a big deal before we had TV's in every home. " We'll take you for a test drive...Not a hair raising wild ride...a ride at speeds you like to travel " People were in slow mode back then...and scared of speed. Cool old wood burning stove to heat the office at the end of the "movie" or was it a flicker ? And the women took imagination to figure out if they were a performance model, or just standard.
They aren't General Jumbos. At first I thought they were spoke covers but I think the hub cap is too big and I do think you are right that they are some kind of accessory wheel. The drawing was Aug 5th so the movie had to be made in July at the very latest. The 32's were only available for a couple of months then.
You know, with the amount of talent and imagination thats on this board, a time machine shold be do-able.
The 32 4dr at the very end of the clip looks like it has one of those types of accessory wheels on it.
The fordor at the very end is a 30-31 A, and to me it looks like those are Firestone wires like that Exceter guy (the HAMBer who deals Offy parts) has on his Model A.
Great old footage. Love the 3 window. The shot of the girls pulling up and getting out lends weight to the suggestion that Edsal's coup was meant for the gals.
that is a cool video its also cool that fish ranch road and berkley and oakland are mentioned as I grew up in that area.
Amazing that at the end of the video when they panned over the cars they were giving away, they were model A's in that row. Pat.
