Speed Racer Movie Coming Soon... Go Speed Go!

If your around my age (37) and grew up watching cartoons every single day, you were probably a huge fan of Speed Racer. Apparently, so were the Wachowski Bros. (Matrix series), and they are finishing up a Live Action version with lots of CG effects, of course... The car looks pretty good in the still shot...

Im 38 and could not wait to watch the show every day,i hope this movie will be great

 

Hopefully it's like Matrix 1 (incredible), not like Matrix 2 & 3 (complete shit).

 

So I wonder who will be the villan. I hope it's not the stupid Mamoth Car. I also hear Susan Sarandon was going to play Mom Racer. I hope Pops has a good lawyer and dumps the broad! (45 years young)

Awesome! This was supposed to happed almost a decade ago- should be better now as effects are WAYYYY better now.

 

Maybe the Apaches(?) motorcycle gang? Heard about the movie too, while surfing. I always dug Racer X though. U gotta love the monkey too!

Last Saturday my brother sent me an email from LA... just sez "Guess what they're filming in the studio next door?"... attached was a pic of him posing next to the Mach 5.

I can't wait.

Mach 5 unveiling

 

Hey--- Why didn't Hot Rod put the Mach 5 in the top ten w/ General Lee? Looks like a lot of us have fond memories of the Mach 5. Wasn't somebody doing a repo of it about 8 years ago?

Christina Ricci is spooky cool. But I'm confused, weren't Racer X and Rex Racer the same guy?

And Sprytle bugged the hell out of me.

Polar Lights made a model of the car a few years back- fairly simple in construction, but nice lines.
Yeah, I loved every episode- and really ancouraged that this will be something I can take my 5-year-old to see.

 

I used to run home from school to watch Speed Racer (39). And yes, somebody was making running, driving Mach 5's a few years ago.

 

Yokohama got their product placement in there first thing.

I wonder if Purina will do the same with it's Monkey Chow?

The replicas were on this website: www.mymach5.com I don't know if it's still working, I've been blocked.

 

I heard they were going to get Geoge W. to play Chim Chim, but he wanted to run for a 3rd term...

 

I love Speed Racer, but the "film" stills for this look pretty bad... more like a video game.

My dog doesn't like Speed Racer. I think she's more of a Racer X fan... but she has incredible aim.

I was wondering when they would finally get around to making this film!
I didn't miss a single episode way back in the 70's, even got series on DVD, just to bring back some sweet memories watching this show. I bet the special FX are going to make this movie come alive, may not transfer acting and story wise, but everything else looks pretty cool. hope it does though, something to look forward to this summer .... yea!

CGI-Great. Ruining something else I enjoyed as a child.

 

I cant wait, my kids are always asking to watch it now, may have to go see it on the big screen. I usually wait to rent em.

43 and watched it every afternoon fron 68-74 on KBSC - TV Ch52 (Became ON-TV) in 1977 now Telemundo 52 Spanish channel).
Petersen Auto has a running version that was made sevral years ago and has the right steering wheel with the buttons in the center,
No Chim Chim listed in the credits -Whats up with that? Yes, Rex & Racer X were one in the same. Go Figure I'd say "That's Hollywood"
but I can since it is being over engineered like every other Kraut Rod
ie:BMW,MBZ,AUDI,PORSCHE & water cooled VW's in Germany.

I remember Tom Slick!! He was on right before or after George of the Jungle!! Wow, that brings back some memories.
