never wanting to follow in the footsteps of others I frequently go in different directions...i.e. swapping out a 68 buick 350v8 for a 225v6. I have an old willys cj2a that was very nicely converted to a cj3b clone by some talented chap 22 years ago...then he installed a buick v8...then it sat for twenty years...the motor smokes...bad. I got my hands on a 225v6 that runs great and am gonna swap it in, saving a few pounds and maybe an air pollution ticket or six. at any rate, I'm curious to know if I will have to replace the motor mounts. I know the bellhousing fits, but don't know if the mounts are different. mostly in placement is my question. I'll be finding out soon enough, but if anyone has some knowledge on this before I start yankin parts out, maybe I could order up needed parts prior to making the mess. any help would be appreciated. thanks
you should be able to just look at the motors and see if they're different, my guess is they are the same distance from the front of the engine, so that makes them different distance from the back of the engine (since the V6 is about 4 or 5 inches shorter than the V8)
Remember, that's an odd fire V6. Pretty cool little engines. You might want to swap out the flywheel on that ****er too, the Jeeps had a much heavier flywheel than the Buick p***enger cars. Robb
Motor mounts must be different somehow because when I try to get one for my 64 Olds F-85 with the 225 V-6 they come up "discontinued". If they were the same as V-8 I would think the parts suppliers would be smart enough to cross the numbers over for my application. Probably no help, but here is a picture of a 60's Jeep with the Dauntless 225 V-6 engine:
not sure about buick but on chevy they move on the crossmber the v 6 are back farther v8s move ahead same motor mount
