Hey Out there! has anyone used a mopar brake drum and hub on a 37-41 Ford spindle to get 4 1/2 spacing for later wheels I know they use Volare rotors with ford bearings to get discs???? This is reaching ..But? Thanks Gordon
I'm pretty sure you can have a machine shop make spacers to fit just about anything on there or have bearings made. I know its not much feedback for you sorry.
To run Volare rotors you need to press iner bearing adapters on your Ford spindles. The outside bearing has the same ID as the old Ford. But the inside bearing has a larger ID than the old Ford and it is positioned further out on the spindle. Pete & Jakes and Ch***is Engineering sell the adapters as part of their disc brake conversion kits. My guess is that the earlier MOPAR drum/hubs use different bearings and spacings. And then there is the problem of adapting the MOPAR backing plate to the Ford spindle and getting everything to line up right. I think I would look into after market hubs (Wilson Welding) with the correct bolt pattern and repop brake drums drilled to fit. You can also have a machinest redrill stock Ford hubs and drums. The only problem with this is getting the lug bolts in right. Pictures show some hubs and drums that I took off an old hot rod and sold on eGay. But then again, this is hot rodding. And you will not know if it is doable until you try.
Ch***is Engineering sells a kit to do exactly this. They make good stuff. Vaphead sells it. http://www.ch***isengineeringinc.com/page80.html
Good advice from all ...have considered redrilling ford hubs ..Price is right . Thanx Hambers Happy Holidays the Gordon ,Cheap is good! Sometimes!
I have 65 mustang 4 piston brakes on flathead ford spindles the hubs use seperate rotors ...drums might fit the mustang hubs. somewhere i also have the magazine article how they did it I put ford wagon front drums on my willys ...I redrilled the backing plates on the willys the wagon had removable drums. like the rear drums normally use It was 30 years ago and i don't know what year parts I think the fronts were from A 58 ford wagon same bolt patern as mopar
