My 87 was doing that....I crawled underneath and unplugged the electrical conection from the transmission and it didn't do it anymore. I think it had something to do with the "lockup converter".

I don't know if 98 will be as simple as 87 was though.

the noise starts between 40 an 60 mph,at light throttle it sounds like you are running over dozer tracks in the road, comes an go's. first thought was a tight u-joint but pulled the shaft out and they were fine. any help?

If it is the converter shuddering in and out of lockup, there's no cheap way out. Yes, you can unplug the electrical connection and the converter will not go into lockup, but you will create excess heat in the trans that will lead to premature failure. If you just ignore the shuddering and continue to drive, the trans will suffer internal damage and eventually fail. Replace the converter.

On a 98 you can't drive with trans unplugged. You need a valve body to repair the chatter in TCC. Aftermarket outfites have a valve repair kit they can install for you to resolve the problem for less money. It may or may not have a code P1870 stored in pcm. :)

hey, before you get carried away, try some of Lucas's additive.
it's been working for us on a few that the customer doesn't have or want to spend the money to fix it right...
