welcome. you're in a good place if you want to get into striping. there is a search feature at the top of your screen, I would spend a few days looking at old posts about it. Go to this post and read all you can about these people-

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=211860

Ask lots of questions. And practice! Put some progress pics up as you go. It helps to learn as much as you can about hot rodding in general. You should also read up on painting cars. Good Luck!

  8. I don't know where Edinburg is but the paint shop I frequent here in Dallas is English Color, look em up, they've got Mack brushes and 1shot (although they're starting to faze the 1shot out)

and check this out, it's a video clip of Ed Roth interviewing Kenny Howard about the birth of freestyle pinstriping
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ruf4QQuBEmM
I really got a kick out of it when I stumbled across it

There are a number of books out there about this stuff, which is good for stylistic ideas and learning about all that's out there. But before looking too much into all that, search "Pinstripe" on YouTube and watch some people lay some lines, you'll learn a lot real fast.

    Hope that helped.

I looked into the earlier websites and they were fascinating! I"m glad I"m laying a good foundation by reading all of this.

I will look at the videos and the other websites as well! I"m reallly getting motivated to keep on doing this after I"m done doing my art ***ignment....this was supposed to be a grade, lol.

I love the history behind it! I'm a big fan of history, lol.

Any other pointers and advice are still more than welcomed!! I love to learn and am eager to get more links and websites!

If any of y'all have ever pinstriped before....if you have pointers...TELL ME!!! LOL

Here is some advice for startup. .

Get a couple of mack sword striping brushes. they are the ones with the blu ferrel wrap, NOT the green. Probably size 00 and 0.

*NEATSFOOT OIL*- you can get at tack and feed stores, it's the only way to condition and store the brushes as they are a natural hair, and are ruined if left unconditioned.

Some one shot sign painters enamel in the primary colors.

Some reducer (I use House of Kolor).

    Mineral spirits.

    A large drawing pad.

A sheet of gl*** (24" x 36" or something like it).

Look at a ton of pinstriping designs and draw stuff similar out on the pad with colored pencil, tape it behind the gl*** and trace on top with the brushes. When youre done take a pic and wipe it down with thinner. start again, repeat etc..This way you get your feet wet and are on the path to bad***ness. You'll find that a coulpe months down the road you're actually pretty good. I've seen kids that have only been striping for a few months turn out some awesome stuff.

    Welcome,

  22. Welcome to the best board on the hotrodddin' net, from ****ewoood. I too, am into striping & learning for myself, as well. All the info that you've asked for, I'm hijacking, too, ha. It's all good stuff, honestly, dreddybear has it down. Practice, practice & then practice some more. The gl*** & sketch tip is really good.
When you move to Austin next year for school, you gotta meet up w/ everyone @ the Dog & Duck. Everybody there is pretty cool to hang with. Sometimes, you may even see some famous folks there. Really cool place to see good cars & people.
Keep us posted on your progress.

I started working on designs this weekend with color pencils. I figured out a pattern in the designs that's been pretty helpful. I went to Hobby Lobby to buy some gl*** sheets and some mineral spirits. Is it true that house paint works the same as 1Shot?

I practiced on the hand techniques as well...I still find it hard to make rounded lines...

I will definately check out that place :)

I hope someone can help me with this......since my posts won't post at the questions and suggestions forum....

Can 1Shot be subs***uted with house paint? I read this somewhere on the net...but I'm not sure it that's true....
