im going to Kauai for a week and wanted to know if there was anything to do as far as hot rods and kustoms go. shops? hangout? bars? cruise nights?
We went to that island a month ago! While only saw a couple old cars, there was a cool tiki bar up north in Hanalei...been there over 50 years. I think their hot-rods are jacked up Toyota trucks.
wow! take a break fellow gearhead and relax. believe me that would be the ONLY place i would go and forget about cars. well alaska has the same effect also. call the local parts store they might know.
Yeah, there big on the Toyota scene out there, but a few rods here and there. Hell I left all my hot rod thoughts at home and like the other said sit back and do some sight seeing and swim with turtles if you can, it will freak you out.
That bar in Hanalei is the Tahiti Nui, they used to have family luaus on Wed night. Cooked the pig in a hole in the dirt parking lot behind the bar. Dinner included all the Mai Tais you could drink. Put the car scene aside for awhile and dig the aloha. If you want to do cruise nights, go to Pomona.
hahah i work so hard during the week i use my garage to mellow. i was just wondering if there was some nice scenery/cars. thanks for the tip on the bar.
I was there in 88. I actually went looking for and found the NHRA track. Dunno if it's still there but might be worth a look see....
Friday afternoon there is a small gathering of the local hot rods in the Wal-Mart parking lot (southwest corner) near the airport. Check the Harley dealer on the road before you get to the "tree tunnel to Poipu. But if I were you I'd go snorkling at Tunnels beach then chill on beach with a nice cold one. Check out Queen's bath in Princeville. I will live on Kauai someday full time. Want a special meal? Go to Postcards in Hanalei town. Hike the Napali coast trail for 2 miles to a very secluded beach and bring a lunch. Have fun. -stick
You will love it. I spent quite a bit of time (well as much as an island requires) hiking there a couple summers back. If you are really up for a hike, go into the Waimea (sp?) Canyon, it is really something. Check out the Napali coast for sure. I would recommend by boat as well as hiking. I REALLY hope to get back there SOON.
If you like GOOD BBQ, hit up Scotty's BBQ. Wife and I were just there in Sept. and we loved this island. Ended up buying into a time share as we are going back many more times. BTW, in Hawaii (doesn't matter which island), everything happens on Hawaiian time, meaning very slow and relaxed. Don't be in a hurry for anything, just go with the flow and enjoy. Mahalo!
