I have a 1965 Chevy Biscayne. I was thinking about maybe making it a g***er and putting a straight axle under the front of it. Anyone have any suggested parts or ways to do it. I havent looked into it much but the idea came by so i thought id start to look into it.

Best bet IMHO is to go look at some - check out the features that you think are NEAT and then see what it'd take to put it under your ride.

Speedway sells tube axles cheap - brake conversions - whatever you need.

Lots of other places to source parts as well. My buddy has an old Econoline axle in his '55 Ford

I've got a speedway axle in my Rambler. I run trailer springs in mine - they've worked out great for the last 10 or 15 years.

I think I would consider other options for a 1965 Chevy, just my opinion.

I was thinking about useing a straight axle so the front would be lifted and putting a set of Hurst Racing Cheater Slicks and a nice set of rims with maybe White Walls in the front and then painting it Flat Black or Gloss Black. Im not sure exactly what im doing im just collecting ideas for it and i was thinking about giving it a g***er old school look

me, too. although there were some "sleeper" biscaynes (baldwin motion, etc.) i think a full sized chevy wouldn't look right as a g***er. just too big. not that it can't be made to be fast, just not the right look.

when i used to go to GG Indy there was a yellow '67 impala that ran in the 8's. BUT, they musta had cubic dollars in the engine to get that thing movin' that well. and from 50 feet it looked bone stock (except for tires/wheels).

if i were gonna build a '65 biscayne, i think i'd go for a "normal height" look; sbc; 700r4; bench seat; etc.

BUT, i'm not knockin' any ideas you've got. just expressin' an opinion.

whatever you decide on, post pix. we all love pix.

Your 65 Biscayne would look great with an axle. I would check with MAS. They advertise (in the back)of a lot of Hot Rod mags. Unlike speedway (which is a great source for parts) sell axles 46" and 48" wide, MAS will build you an axle any width you'd like ( the one in my 55 Chevy is 51" to move the tires out closer to there stock position. You may even want to go wider).
When I was in High School, there were a couple early sixties full size Chevy straight axled cars locally. Looked nasty.
    Good luck with your project.

  9. I think you could pull it off with the right wheels and tires, AND radiused rear wheel wells!

As for a front axle... I think most aftermarket ones will be too narrow...

I'd go with the complete set up out of a 50's Chevy pickup... don't pay more than $150 for the whole set up.

Add a disk brake kit... and wallah!

    Sam.

Sorry but I thought this was a complete waste of money. I demanded my money back and got it.

65 Biscaynes have pretty big rear wheelwell openings, don't think they'd need radiused. ...it's your car, build what you want. Speedway axles are too narrow for 5-6-7's let alone your wide 65.

  14. once again you have hit the nail right on the head.
not the right bodystyle car for a g***er.
its like tryin to make a 41 willys a leadslead.

In 65', there was a 65' Chevy Biscayne with a Drag Pack option. It was a 396 and 4 speed. I saw one back east and decided I wanted one. Only problem was an original was $75K. I found this Biscayne in San Diego and decided to build my own with improvements.

Now the car has a 454 with a 6 speed.

Keep in mind the weight of this car...

  19. As cool as this 64 is (dont care for the set-up) mid sixtys cars can make good lookin STREET FREAKS! However I street raced a 66 biscayne with a factory 396 in it back in the 70s andthe damn thing is heavy,Id use a 55-59 chevy truck set-up or a 60s chevy vans (check the widths). However I think this car would look *****in down in front with a 60s style rake in it,and NO whitewalls, kinda a street look and it would still have the look of a serious street car,if done with the right parts.how about this??................and yeah I drive a street freak 56 chevy everyday........
