When you are little The best present was the box it came in.

  3. Christmas was always special around our house, it's the day Mom and Dad would let us out of the box in the basement, they'd push us into the duffle bag and they would hand us over to "Uncle Roy."

Uncle Roy wasn't really our uncle, I'm not even sure it was the same guy every year, but he was named Roy. Uncle Roy must have eaten a lot of candy, because everything in his house was sticky, but it least it wasn't the cold concrete we were on the rest of the year.

Christmas morning, Uncle Roy would spray us off with the hose, put us back in the duffle bag and toss in his trunk to drive us home.

My best Christmas ever? When we each got our own duffle bag! Yeah!

When I was seven, I was in the hospital over X-mas with Pneumonia. When I came home from the hospital my Dad had set up a Lionel train set in the basement for me. That was also a very memorable x-mas...

... I still have the train set! :)

Seriously... there's not much better than a train set for christmas.

Christmas was Dads BIG holliday. He loved the season and spoiled us rotten. We weren't rich by any means, (Dad farmed and carpentered in the winter), but the kids I ran with must have thought we were when Christmas came around.

Not sure how he pulled it off every year but he must have squirreled away money all year long.

The short list of memorable gifts.

1957 First and only bike, Huffy, tanks, horn, lights, baloon tired beauty in red and white. Got stripped down over the years but I found the frame in the machine shed this year when I was cleaning up for the estate sale. couldn't bring myself to throw it away so it's sitting on my back porch for now.

1959 American Flyer train set, still have whats left of it.

Sometime in the '60s Aurora Model Motoring HO race set.

    Sears Go Kart

    Linberg Bob Tail T

And the list goes on. We've been decorating this week at the house, I inherited my passion for the season from Dad.

Merry Christmas and thank for the thread, brought back a lot of good memories.

When I was 6 or 7 I got a black 2dr hardtop '57 Chevy remote control car. I pretty much thought I was the queen of the Dairy Queen with that thing. I still have it somewhere...

    There were some great ones.

    Evel Knievel? Check
(Do I get extra points for having both the stunt cycle AND the snake river canyon rocket cycle?)

Hot Wheels? Check (Orange track hurts like hell when you get spanked with it)

Big Wheel? Check (rode it till the front wheel split down the middle)

But...the one I remember most fondly is :

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290188611236

the Kenner SSP Smash-Up Derby set. With ramps- to send your cars flying into each other! HOW COOL IS THAT?? The parts would fly off, and then you could rebuild them to be smashed again!

It was a VERY good year...

Having a birthday 2 weeks before Christmas, I got alot of birthday& Xmas 'combined' gifts. They were bigger than if I chose to get individual presents. A family trip to Disney one year, Skis, Slot cars, and I got a Kayak when I turned 15.

That was probly the only present I got that I didnt have to share with my little brother. LOL

1967? Schwinn Stingray (knockoff from Gambles) Metallic Green, Banana seat and training wheels. I eventually broke the frame trying to emulate Evel Knievel by jumping over garbage cans. Damn, I loved that bike...

    Funny AND true!

When I was 16 I got a pile of parts for my VW... a chrome stinger, a wink mirror, baby Turbos, yellow plug wires, and I bet I was the only kid installing a Cal-look rubber kit at 10am on THAT Christmas morning.

  21. The Hotwheels and Matchbox in my stocking in the sixties were better than the bigger gifts!

  22. The sensitive side:):
My folks were pretty broke when I was a kid as my Dad was finishing school (he's a Chiropractor) but they always managed to get me a big Tonka truck at Christmas...They all hold a lot of sentimental value now, and they were valuable to me as a kid as I never got them dirty (very frustrating to my friends)

    The selfish side:cool::
A buddy of my dad's gave me a '64 Riviera with a rebuilt 425 and niiiice black interior free and clear for driving it home 45 miles...I was a pretty happy 19 year old "kid".

    My 2 favorites...

Big Bruiser !! It was a Motorized Wrecker. Close second...Tiger Joe. A Motorized Army Tank

  24. My neighbor had a green machine and wanted one real bad..... I got a big wheel instead. My neighbor would switch with me so we had the best of both worlds... We road them so much we wore flat spots those plastic tires.

    I was a 90's kid.

I got my first bubble mower when I was 3. I wore it out and my parents had to buy me another one!

    play school trike.

I wore holes in the front wheel of this thing (plastic) from doing so many burnouts.

    Harley Sporster bicycle

It made engine sounds and had a speedometer with a millage indicator. I still have it. Over 800 miles on it. Thats a lot of trips up and down the driveway.

    Suzuki FA 50cc

I think I bought this with my own money but I remember it was $50 and it was cool as hell when I was 10. Me and my dad had to get it running first. I blew it up after a couple of years.

I had a huge model train. Would get lots of additions for Christmas. A great hobby-you learn modeling, airbrushing, wiring and patience!
Had lots of AFX-my first set had a 70 Camaro VS a Superbird!
Tons of Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Corgi toys.
    Model cars
I remember one year getting a huge gas station with an elevator to upper level parking and a hoist.
Vertibird-that helicopter that you flew around in circles. It was awesome!
    Tons of Lego.
I remember getting a toy traffic light- yes it was a big battery powered traffic light. WAY out of scale to my Hot Wheels and Matchbox(it was about 10" high) but I loved the damn thing..
I remember getting a miniature version of the video game "Galaxians". I wired an Atari 2600 joystick to it. Worked awesome!
