I think if its something youre serioulsy considering and you think you will like it you owe it to yourself to try it and see. a lot of what people consider cool started out as an idea in someones mind and they went against what everyone else thought and did it. if you listen to some of these purists every car will look the same, and how boring would that be?! too many opinionated pricks on here, no red wheels this, no bags on this car or that car. imagination is a wonderful thing, so if you have it use it and pay no attention to what everyone else thinks!
Sept. '56 issue of "Mechanix Illustrated" has a picture of a crazy homebrew roadster with red wheels. Isn't that Floyd Cotterpin is his youth in the "woody"? I heard he had one one time.
My car has red wheels because that is what I want and it looks good. Conestoga wagons had red wheels, how more traditional than that do you want?
Back in high school I had a '58 Chevy stepside p/u with a straight 6, split manifold running into dual glasspacks, and 3 on the tree. The truck was dark green and had green wheels with the small white chevy truck hub caps. I switched to chrome wheels and painted the stock hub caps green, reinstalled them, and added a green pinstripe along the lip of the wheel. Cheap and different. And looked pretty cool to.
I got two of my steelies painted red then read this post.................oops! Actually, I wanted to leave them rust oxide primer but my wife wouldn't let me. Awesome Edsel man, a friend of mine is really into those. Don't worry about the drama, I plan on asking how to get the flattest black paintjob, tune in next week!! Later- John this is just part of the fun, kinda like bench racing!
Pretty traditional alright, 18th century, wow... I bet a person would be hard pressed to find the hemp fabric to do a ragtop with though.
Worst argument. Ever. By those standards walking is traditional too...so is contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and dying at age 30. Good luck with that project, let us know how it turns out...I'll be expecting a tech article This thread needs to crawl in a hole and die.
In So. Cal. where I grew up we ran black wheels but I like the RED WHEEL look and the whole thing is it was a drag racing thing.... see you had to pop off your hub caps before you could run down the strip. Most cars in the fifties came from the factory with black rims. I'll do red again and piss off the wanna bees.
the problem with this hobby is to many people worry what some one else thinks. who gives a shit? if there not helping with the build or buying your parts screw em! man if you like red wheels paint them red, you won't be the first to like them.
I like how guys will pick something like red wheels and say that they are overdone but when I dare suggest that someone not slap yet another 32 grill shell on their non-32 rod I get a bunch of crap.
I liked this shade of red for the wheels because it contrasts well with the maroon interior. The paint is Rustoleum "Hard Hat", industrial acrylic enamel in a spray can. It has held up well for seven years now and seems to resist the Bleache White tire cleaner that I use. pigpen
damn kiwikev not only has the coolest garage, hes got the coolest car too.... thata a bitchin car man!! j.t.
The wagon picture is a few years old, unfortunately that car has been off the road for a year or 2. It needs some patch panels and bodywork among other things. I'll get to it eventually. I'm keeping that thing until I die!
