F.Y.I. is everybody out there aware that you can still buy new replacement headliners for almost any car built from the '30s to present from a J.C. Whitney catalog. At Bonneville a couple of years ago in my gutted 48 Ford moor door a guy from back east approached me and told me he had just bought a new headliner for his 48 out of the Whitney catalog. I wasn't aware they still had a catalog. Went down to my nearest newsstand and sure enough there it was. Almost the only old car part they still carry. Ordered one and got it in a couple of weeks. Haven't installed it yet but glad I can still do something like I did in the '50s.
I noticed the same thing when looking on their website and was thinking about buying a 1950 Merc headliner to see how it fits in our 51 Chopped Merc with 50 rear window. Please post how this installation went. Thanks Ol Blue
I believe the headliner manufacturer is in Long Beach, CA. I called them a number of years ago about an Anglia headliner. No problem for them. They had the patterns.
not planning to install it soon. If anybody out there has installed one I'd like to hear how it went.
I was hoping to score some of the old pleated seat covers they used to sell for my 54 but alas no ah ah. The only type they sell now are black and neon **** for the "tuna" crowd
I have one that came with my Galaxie. I'm not going to install it until we have a nice sunny warm day to help the headliner stretch. Here's a tech I found on the installation: http://home.comcast.net/~blakphi/photo_pages/headliner.htm Tom
I installed a J.C, Whitney headliner in my 37 Chevy coupe when I built it, ( black perforated vinyl) it fit really good and was pretty easy to install considering I had no experience with upholstery.......
I've bought seat upholstery for a couple of pick-ups, good stuff for a work truck, but no real pleats. Also ordered a convertible top from them for my Vette, they sent a letter saying they were discontinued and credited the card, then a week later the top came! Seems like the place was in Arkansas. You could probably go straight to the manufacturer, but it's cheaper to get it through J.C.!
Autocraftinteriors.com there're in Ludlow M***. they supply JC Whitney and others. I just redid the interior in my El Camino on the cheap.
Used a Whitney headliner in my 57 Chevy wagon. Tore it back out last year as it was in tatters. Of course that was after 30 yrs. of service so I can't *****. It was the cheapy cloth one too, looked great for a long long time. Install was pretty straight foward and I was really proud of the result as a 16 yr.old on his first upholstery experience.
Used one in a Falcon I built for my Daughter. Worked great and the guy who contracts to Whitney for their carpets is really cool if you can find out where he is. I gave him a carpet from a Falcon Futura-( different from regular) and he did a custom carpet for me.
I plan using one of their headliners for my 53 Willy's pickup, but it has a ways to go before its upholstery time.
I'm glad to hear this good feedback because I need headliner etc. for my F100...It's not like there are no other sources but I buy quite a bit of misc. stuff from JC Whitney, especially if what I want or need is on sale.
Looking into Autocraft Interiors. For a custom guy on a budget looks pretty cool. Looks like they can fit damn near any seat out there.
