The $15k you want to make on it might help with the feelings of dread and guilt you profess. But wow, you sure seem to have some brutal feedback as a seller on eBay.
I am actually not out to make a bunch of money on it, more or less just getting my money back. The guy I bought the car from had it priced even higher... I priced it high here at the showroom more as a deterent. To keep my cars here they have to have a price on the window. I did not really want to sell it at the time. I work at a classic car dealership and have some high dollar rides specializing in Corvettes. It is damn near impossible to please on ebay and the bad feedbacks you speak of were aimed toward my boss Art and not any of my deals. The Corvette crowd is a rough bunch to deal with (that's why I like rods). Those of you on here that know me can vouge that I am not a money hungry crook. I love the car but have alot of money tied up in it and need to use those funds to buy my next ride. I am wanting a Kustom with seating for 4. I have a stock 30 model-A that I am doing my own build on to replace the Grenade in my line up of cars. No matter what I do to this car, it will always be Kris Elmer's Green Grenade and surely you guys can respect that. I Knew I would catch hell for buying a built car instead of doing it myself and knew it would be even worse when I decided to sell it... It is not a crime to change your mind about a car after you buy it...
Well, it smells funny to me........It's a Dad only car...........I'm building my own Model A. It's okay, man, if your out to turn a profit, good for you, but don't shine us on about love and regret, money motivates some people as much as passion for cars motivates other people. All this is just my impression, so that means it's worth doodley squat.
Your right, your impression doesn't mean doodley squat. I liked the Grenade or I would not have bought it in the first place. It is a fun car but is too small. To me it was more fun to look at than actually drive(although I did drive it quite a bit). I am replacing it with a 50's custom. I did not sell it because I need the money or was trying to make some extra bucks. Nor was I trying to shine anyone or have any reason to do so. This is the first time me selling one of my cars became subject to public opinion/controversy. As for my model A build. I do have a stock coupe that I bought specifically to build my own car. As much as I like the Grenade there are things I want to do different on this one(less chop and less carbs). That is the fun of the hobby, everyone has their own idea of a perfect rod. As stated earlier, no matter what I do or don't do to the grenade it will always be known as Kris Elmer's car.
Well, in any case, i will say it's one of the coolest A-bones I have ever seen...i really can't find a thing about it I don't like! Its just plain bad ass in every way.
Well I am happy to say that I am the proud new owner of the Green Grenade! I can vouch for the previous owner that he was not in it for the money. He made it clear to me several times during our telephone conversations that money was not a factor, but the fact that he and his wife were expecting there second child was the main factor for selling, and he wanted a car (a cool car that was built by him) that the whole family can enjoy and go for rides. (Personally I think that is pretty cool wanting to build a car that is family friendly). I assured him that the car will be used and will be seen out in public. I am not a dealer, and I don’t intend on selling the Green Grenade any time soon. However when the time does come the previous owner requested that he get the first right of refusal for re-purchasing the car. I don’t think I will do anything to other than perhaps finish the door panels. And if I decide to do that I will contact the builder and get his opinion. But first I have to take possession of the car. Any one in So. Cal who would like to come and check the car out let me know. If you see it out a show or a cruise night come over hello.
Good for you rej9. Maybe I'll see it at the Donut Derelicts.............Everyone seems to show up at one time or another.
Thanks, I'm sure I will end up there sooner or later. If you see the car there come over and say hello.
Kris Elmer- In one of your posts about the Green Grenade you mentioned that you were in the middle of finishing the interior when you let the car go. What were you intentions for finishing the interior?
