Please refer to my post and take your own initiative to infer that my opinion on that is "absolutely not"

there are 14 pages of this,..and I am not going to read them,,,:) it may have ben said before,,but the ONLY car that i would rather have in a 4 dr model than a 2dr model would be a mid 60's Continental...:D in that case,,the 4drs are way cooler:D

I've heard that among taxi-drivers, the 4 doors are a craze. Not a new though. Actually has been for decades.:):)

From what I have read on this thread , It seems like the 4 door versus 2 door is a lost case . IMHO : Buy what you can afford , and do the most out off it . Save an old car & and have FUN !!
I`s all about imagination , taste , skills & $$$. Let`s say you WANT a `55 Chevy 2door , but you cant find a builder within your pricerange . Then , out of the blue , a `55 Chevy 4door turns up for sale , And, : you can afford it .. : pass or buy ?
    Dream or play ?
Bottom line is that we are all on this zite because we like old cars
( Used to be because we liked traditional Hot-Rodding & Customizing ) , and if the fun starts with a 4door , well ... then nothing wrong with that ! .
It is just as easy to make a 2door look like crap, as it is to make a 4door look COOL ! : Stance , Engine , Colour ,wheels and interior ...
Have FUN with the $$ you have !!
    Klaz:)

That was exactly my thought. To the older generation it is a big deal. I'm 30 and grew up without the prejudice against more doors. I look at the style and lines of any car and think of the things that can make it better. I'd take a new Chysler 300 or Dodge Charger any day over a Colbalt SS. I just think like Uleman does, that with a new generation comes new ideas.

I posted this thread over a year ago and I'm a new comer to the hobby. Since my original post I've spent countless hours in the garage pounding on metal, working on my motor, making mistakes, learning from them and having alot of good times. If I would have decided to save my pennys for a 2-door I would be just purchasing it, and I wouldn't of had those experiences and knowledge gained. Now I must finish my vision.

So Eddiesxem is right on the money. We only have so many years on this earth so we better get with it while we can. And to the young guys, Don't save your money, buy a 4-door and have fun now.

    My Vision:

I would agree with what has been said so far, and add that if a guy is creative enough, a 4-door can be modified into a two door, but could also be restyled to become a much cooler piece. Maybe if people think outside the box, they will create something that was never dreamt of in that body style before.

How about four door hardtops with suicide rear doors, 4-door convertibles, a three door, a homemade wagon or delivery "ala Nomad", a roadster pickup, "el Camino" version, or a woodie?

I don't think its the older generation that don't like 4 drs., I'll be 72 tomorrow and I love my 4dr.,some people think that the only cars are cool are the ones they like.

Barrett- Jackson will make sure 4 doors become the next craze. The regular guy cant afford the 2 doors anymore, just like sporting events and other such things get rich peoples attention and we are priced out of the market.

The point about the younger guys growing up with 4-doors and being used to them makes sense. And if that is whats going on, then sure it could be the next craze. But if it is, it will just make this 23 year old's 2-doors look better :D

My dad always had two doors and I always thought folding the seat forward to climb in the back seat was cool.

All this talk of thinking out of the box, doing something different, etc.....nobody is doing anything different....they still french the headlights and shave the handles and chop the roof...nothing new....except it's got a funny lookin' extra line behind the front door.

One of the best cars I owned was a 57 Olds 4-dr hdtp. Bought at an auction for 85.00 from the original owner's widow. drove it home! Absolutely loved that car. Sold it to a kid who drove it to High School for 3 years. Wish I could find another one like it that I could afford!

Some four doors are very cool, most are not. Many two doors are very cool, some are not.

I personally think that my four door '26 Touring is cooler than my '27 Tudor, but I have friends that don't agree with me.

My first car was given to me by my Dad. A 47 Pontiac with too many doors, painted with a brush, brindle-shit brown. I hated it !~! I quickly saved my coins and bought a 49 Olds 2DOOR from a neighbor and junked the too many doors Pontiac. They were not cool then and they aint cool now. Ya cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Traditional Hot Rodding is just that , keep the Tradition , not change it because a 4 door is cheaper.

See the photo on the first page of Chapter One ("Dry Lakes History") in the book The Birth of Hotrodding by Robert Genat...then try to say with a straight face that my fenderless four door T Touring is not traditional.

And while you have the book open, you may as well flip over to page 76, too.

back in the good old days these cars were cheap, now, because of assholes like boyd coddington, hot rodding is becoming a pleasure sport for the rich only. i really don't want to see the day when kids like the ones who first started hotrodding can't afford to buy and fix up their cars because it's an elite club just for the rich who can afford to buy the cars and hire somebody else to do the customizing for them. sorry if this offends some people, but i'm an FNG

Gotta jump in on this one. I've been cruisin' in a 4 door 36 Nash for a few years now. I take the family to rod runs and car shows and there's even room to put the kid's flamed Murray pedal car in the trunk. I had a HenryJ before that and any family outing to car events was a real struggle. The Nash is an unusual body style, chopped and flamed, so it gets looked at...at lot.

Last summer I bought a 63 Nova 4 door at an auction for $900 - shiny paint and all. I threw a mexican blanket on the seat and drive it to work every day. It burns half the gas that my F-150 does and it really stands out against the rows of mini vans in the parking lot.

So you can have fun with a 4 door and it helps get the kids interested in the hobby!

My buddy just dropped thi off for me today. It cruzes super nice, like your on a cloud. Nice door panels and clean headliner. E400 motor (361 ci) that purs like a kitten with a brand new holley 650cfm carb. I researched and she has just a butt hair above 300hp, teletouch trans with the push buttons in the steering wheel. All the lights and everything including heater work, and has a CD player under dash. I have everything including the caps, all removed stainless, and original keys. She is reported to only have 100K on the clock. No major plans for her yet except to pile in all my buds and go out cruzing. Soon I will be re-doing the scalops and adding more. I know the black and red thing has been done over and over again, but thats just cuz it looks SOOOOO RIIIIIGHT!! She has inspired me to hurry up and finish my '27 Ford. Damn I love old cars. She also has the Black with Yellow letters Plate. I wish it was the Yellow with black but Screw it, I'm still going to keep it.
