A good friend of mine in our car club has a clean 55 chevy pickup ,and since most of us in the club have customs, he told us last friday that he wanted one too.Well, he found/bought one on monday and some of us guys in the club helped him chop it last night , wouldnt it be nice if we all had it that way .. he's a lucky guy .. here are a few pics
That's what a club should be about...Buddies helping each other out. Looks great, keep us posted on the build.
Looks Amazing. I'm finishing the chop on my 49 now. I'd love to see more pics of how you are going to finish the sale panels. That was my biggest pain.
thanks fellas, thanks to my cochino brothers that helped me out, couldn't have done it without you guys... i plan on having it on the streets by mid jan, it's got a good 216, auto powerglide. i'm not sure how the sail panels are gonna be done, this is my first chop so i'm learning as i go. i'll be sure to post pics though.
You guys always spit out some cool ****. Nice shop too, I wish I had a convertable or two in my 49-52 Chevy collection.
I wish I had some friends like you. I could sure use some help doing the chop on my car when it comes time...
Dang,,,you guys have those sedan chops down! The inventory in that shop is impressive too,,,but no coupes?? Bryan
dam!!! Indian Joe buys a car one day and chops it the next!!!!and dont do those sail panels with out me homie!!!
JOE! Holy smoke man. You bought the Rivi and now you've got your custom started. I'm jealous. Good job Cochinos. That's what its' about.
thanks fellas, it's get'n there. this is a budget build, nothing too crazy. i've always dreamed of having a chop top chebbie and with the help of my homies it's finally coming together. i think the hardest part of the chop has been deciding on how much to cut and sticking to it. here's how we're doing the sail panels: i started out with a triangle template. cut it out and gave it some shape. don't have an english wheel so i used my mexican gut . works wonders. wasn't too happy about making several patches so i made a new template to cover the area above the above the rear window. cut it out and gave it some shape. i didn't make it an exact shape, just a rough outline of where i want the edges of the metal to go. i used a few vice grips to hold the edges down then tacked it all in place. this will give the metal a better contour shape. i let the bottom of the metal slide behind the beltline. that will give me the bend. overlap and tack to get the patch to match up to the roof i cut about 1/4" inside the side, 3-5 inches at a time with a thin cut off wheel. blow through both pieces of metal, clamp it, use a small screwdriver to pry the two pieces together and tack. the patch was looking a little flat, we used the inner relief cut from the top of the roof as a guide, cut through both pieces of metal. ****ed them together and pushed up from the inside. tacked it. that's as far as i've gotten.
NICE!! wish i had some friends that would get off their ***es and help me too. God knows i've helped them plenty on their ****!
Looks good. You guys have one hell of a collection. Saw ya'll's display at the Autorama, firme. I have a '50 Bel Air hardtop in Porter right now at my cousin's getting some stuff done to it.
well after a minor setback and a trip to the eye doctor i finally finished the other sail pan...let this be a lesson to eveyone out there, safety first!!!! a few of us helped out an old timer with his chop on a 52 on sunday, and while every one was chopn up the ole chebbie, i managed to snag this bad*** grill... don't hate adrian, i told you i'd trade ya for that de soto grill...
I love it.... buy it one day chop it the next! The only thing keeping me from chopping the Caddy is the beautiful stainless that surrounds everything.(the rear window won't work on a chop either) I like the trim and don't want to have to trash it. See you guys on Saturday.
