Well after reading about all the people that use mustang radiators I decided that is what I would use in my car. So here's how it went. I made brackets (one for each side) to bolt the radiator to the frame. These brackets bolt to a stud that I welded on the frame and flex a little so the support rods will need to be used to make it sturdy. I also made a grill insert because the radiator is way to small ( you can see the tanks and mounting brackets through the opening in the grill shell. It is made from some old 3/16th stainless rods with 7/16th space between each bar. I then welded studs onto the grill to mount it to the same brackets that bolt the radiator to the frame. I welded on pieces of 1/2" strap to the already been used for everything else mounting brackets so that I could bolt up the grill shell with the stock holes.
It's a '66 for a six cylinder because I needed the bottom outlet on the drivers side. Same year for a V8 has the outlet on the passenger side.
Is the bracket that the grill shell support rods hook onto (radiator side) part of the radiator? Does anyone sell just that part of the radiator?
Very nice work! I run one of those radiators in my 26 T Roadster, & it's worked really well. Keeps my cammed-up 327 running at 180 degrees the majority of the time. Good luck as you go!
I was wondering that too. Maybe find a peice of brass sheet or copper sheet an make one or find a junk rad and cut it off...
I'll get a measurement later this week. If it wasn't for the price I would much rather have the correct radiator. $150 vs $500ish. You can see the tanks and sides of it through the grill shell without the insert.
On my '34, that's part of the header bracket that's soldered to the top tank. I think you could probably fab something similar & tie it into the side straps...
Actually, I meant in Irish27T's '26 T. Does anyone know if the 'stang radiator would fit in a T shell?
great that what I needed to know. now I just have to find 66 mustand rad. been looking for something that would work. didn't reall want to shell 500 bucks for a new walker
I'm running a '71 Fury V8 radiator in my 28/29 Model A grill shell. Had to add another inlet and outlet for the flathead. I also need to run a grill to hide the tanks though.
I got mine brand new from a local radiator supplier. About $150. The V8 radiator has the bottom outlet on the passenger side. The 6 cylinder radiator has the bottom outlet on the drivers side. ( Last two statements will be incorrect if your steering wheel is on the wrong side)
You dont have to cut them off. They bolt onto the tab on the radiator. They are a compound curve. Kinda hard to make at home. Henry used mild steel. Brass and copper arent strong enough
