Has anyone used the Lincoln 140c mig welder? How did you like it? Thanks.

Based on the background articles I read about welders and having a convenient 230V outlet in my shop I went with the 175 instead. $599 at Lowe's.

Nothing really wrong with the smaller mig welders. You are just really limited on the amout and size you weld. I've got a Hobart 135 garage sale welder that I like because it is somewhat portable. I've also got a larger one in my garage.

I went with the Lincoln 175HD also, $430 shipped, new in box on ebay. That's what swayed me... :)

Definitely go for the 220v model. Had one for three years and will do all rod building welding jobs.

  7. I went w/ the 220 V Lincoln 175 SP Mig. Should of bought it years ago. Pay the extra cash and buy the 220 V welder. Bob

i have a Lincoln 135, and it was great for me-- as long as you understand it's purpose. Good for sheet metal and not much thicker. The reason that i bought my newer 220V Lincoln is because I was limited to sheet metal and not much thicker on my 135. That said, i've seen folks really stretch the line of sensibility and safety welding stuff too thick without the necessary penetration using a small welder.

  9. I've had a lincoln 125 for about 11 or so years, I think I paid about 850 or so for it back then with the accesories. it's been a great light duty welder, but it amazes me how the welding industy has kinda been like the home pc industry over that time,, what a grand would by you ten years ago you can get something better for 400 bucks now! As far as what to buy? If it's going to be your primary welder, and you're not going to lug it around, I'd buy the best/highest capacity one you could, it's something you're gonna have for a lot of years, no reason to skimp and always regret it.

    I went for the 175 - 220 from Lowe's $600 ? worth every penny .
I have used the 110 also and loved it for sheet metal . but not enough power
    to weld any thing else.
the 175 is the way to go.

i got a miller 110 volt and a miller 220 volt cant remember the model number but its really nice having a smaller welder for sheet metal and small stuff and the bigger for heavyier metals, for my shop i bought a bunch of 220 cord real thick gauge about 60 feet wired it right into the breaker and just hung it on the wall, reaches my whole shop

Thanks for the comments and advice. In addition to the sheet metal work, have any of you used the mig welders for aluminum welding? If so, how did they work? Did the aluminum wire feed through the gun without binding? Thanks again, I appreciate it.

  13. Yes. I got a Lincoln 140c for Father's Day. It's my first welder and I love it. :D

It works great for sheetmetal. I've used it on 24ga - 14ga. steel and it should do 1/4" steel no sweat, but wouldn't expect it to do anything 3/8" or bigger.

    No experience with aluminum- yet....
