    HAMB'ers!!

As the ***le reads I'm searching for Auto ****** options available for the 235 in my Suburban.

My girl can't drive a stick (easy you dirtbags!!!) and since I want to change to an open driveline I need some ideas.

    Thanks for the input!!

In the 50s you could get a 4 speed automatic Hydramatic trans in trucks behind a 235. These are not overdrive transmissions (the 700 is overdrive), and they're hard to find and not too easy to get parts or someone who knows how to work on them. Also in the 50s you could get the powerglide behind a 235 in cars, this is a 2 speed trans, pretty easy to find, but also difficult to get parts and someone to build one.

The "modern" transmissions like the TH350 and 700R4 require a kind of expensive adapter to put on a 235.

Might see if it would be easier to find a newer 6 that will bolt right up to the modern transmissions...although you'd loose the cool factor of the early engine.

Langdon's stovebolt sells an automatic transmission adapter for $350.00. You could also use a 200r4 trans. This would give you overdrive. I'm installing a chevy s10 4x4 10 bolt rear in my '50 chevy. The s10 4x4 blazer and truck rears are 60" wide just like the '49-'54 chevy cars. I picked my rear up for under 100.00 bucks.

earlier ones have less computer controls, but you need a lockup switch, like the b+m kit, and the tv cable must be adjusted properly.. its not a kickdown cable.. look for bowtie overdrives, they may have a nice setup for you.

The newer the better, but make sure it's not newer than 92 when they went to computer control. Non computer ones have a 4 pin conector on top of the pan area, and maybe a wire connector at the speedo gear area. Computer ones have a ****load of wires.
