Hello guys! im new in building custom cars (im only 17 years old) and this 1951 Chevy styleline 4-door is my second build im just began with. Im about to chop the top of the car and would be nice to have a little info and pics how to do. It's extra hard because i want to keep it 4-door and don't know how to cut back at the windowframe etc because i don't want to mess it up Im concidering to do a 4" chop in the front and a 5" in the back, what do you think? So if you guys can post some progress and build pictures of a choptop (especially of a 4-door) but everything would be greatful. ps. sry bout my bad english, im a swede //Over and out
Hey Walle, Good choice for a first chop, and welcome to the wild world of kustoms. 4'' in the front & 5" in the rear....doable, but some rework at the rear window frames, to keep it a 4dr. will be required. The A & B- posts will be pretty straight foward, unless you want to slant the B-post. Drege the tech section under chops, as there has been a **** load of Bow ties chopped on and off of the HAMB. Thanks, but i did just found one thread and it didn't quite have the pictures id like to have...but yes Kartsa is from finland (neighbour country) but he didn't do on a 4-door...Anybody have some pictures of a 49-52 chevy 4-door chop? it would be great to have some pictures...im also gonna buy a book "how to chop tops on early 50's chevy" who is recommended.. And yes! i will take a lot of pictures during the progress, it's nice to have and it's also a benefit to have when i got to registry the car with the chop. thewishartkid: because it's looks like a grandpa car with the high roof...
you're gonna have your work cut out for you. on practically every chop on a 49-52 chevy, the rear quarter window gets shorter as the top slides forward as it comes down. this can't happen on a 4 door without funkiness. considering the rarity of these cars over there, i'd consider converting the 4 doors to 2.

If you can find another donor car, you'd be able to graft 2 roofs into 1 to keep the length you need.
I am going to start cutting on my 51 4door tonight, I am basically going to do it just as chopt49 did his in the link above.
I have a theory that it maybe will work if i stretch the roof long enough so the windowframe can go down just in the back when it starts original... and then lean the frame forward towards with the roof... what do ya think?? I want to keep it 4-door and still wanna chop it, somebody have some tips? Pictures would be awesome (on a 4-door chop) Droplord49: okey, if you take loads of pictures it would be awesome!!
