a couple of years ago i agreed with williebill... but over time i have learnt that the HAMB has a BAD influence on me, and probably many others.

see, i run my own business so i have ****-all spare time too. back in my late teens i would spend maybe 5 hours a week on my cars. didn't get a LOT done, but i did build one semi-decent (however wildly off-topic) car. since then, i've come home from work, and rather than walked out into the shed, i've looked at all the amazing build-ups on the HAMB. no doubt i've learnt some ****, but their ain't no subs***ute for EXPERIENCE.

if i'd spent all the time i've spent on the HAMB working on cars, two of my projects (which look the same 5 years later) would be done. the truly inspirational guys on this board, like b***, cleatus, littleman (a**** MANY others) don't spend all day looking at the net... they're BUILDING!

i should be too, and so should you. :)

I have benefitted from the HAMB in many, many ways, some I'm sure I don't even realize.

I agree with everything except the projects that have been unfinished for that long! Yikes! I too am 50 something, but if I can't finish or a least make a lot of headway on a project in a year or so, Its Gone! Either finish them or swap them or sell them and get something you can stay excited about and get finished! I love this site but sometimes I find myself on here too much time that I should be thrashing on a project. Get movin man!:D

Aside from the information everyone here shares, and the inspiration the HAMB gives me every time I surf. I have also benefited from the cl***ifieds, without this place I never would've found half the stuff I've got.

    and Ryan - thanks.

Cruzr, am I right? Have certain ladies of the HAMB spoken highly of you? :D Sumpthin' about being able to hop-in and take your rolling sculpture down the road, nowadays I suspect the young-uns text message Squirrel when that pushrod drops off the fuel pump  I would, but can't take the teasin! Besides, the fingers are too big.

WB, You are right. Many of us are in the same boat as you. My garage full of dreams is slowly coming together (model A) and alot of the inspiration for the renewed obsession comes fron the HAMB. I finaly learned that I'm doing this for ME, and I don't have to satisfied somebody elses idea of what one should build. Thanks, Ryan and thank you Williebill for sayin' it like it is.

Just turned 64, and couldn't agree with you any more. The HAMB is a great treat and a real source of inspiration. I ensure that the other members of my club that aren't HAMBers - why I don't know - get all the tech stuff and all the rest of the good stuff. Some days they get A LOT from me!!!

Ryan, thank you for giving us the HAMB.

Never thought of it that way..It is the Hamb's influence that builds the cars of today. With the number of big builders who look to this site for the same reasons we all do... The knowledge and talent that is shared.
Ryan tells us its the people that makes it what it is..
He may be right... but it is Ryan who creates the canv*** for us all to realize the dream.

Well put williebill. Remember when the home page was a wheel & tire? It's amazing what this has become and the wealth of knowledge and skill that is on the HAMB.

This place can become a sick, sick addiction.

My roomates often ask: "Dude, what the **** are you doing on that damn website all the time?"

I just say: "Oh, hot rod stuff."

    HHEhehhehHehhehHehheh...if they only knew!

i to agree with the knowledge to be found all over the hamb board, and the HAMB also gives me ideas and ambition to finish my model a in traditional styling and not street rodding it. this is also the reason i dont have very many posts because all i do is sit on here and read stuff and try to learn more thanks to the HAMB.

Groucho, someone piss in your cornflakes? Give the guy a break. Perhaps he's married with kids and they would like a little time with him each day. Working 12-14 per day does not lend itself to having much, if any at all, extra time. Job and family come way before garage time.

I agree that the Hamb has has bben great for all of us. I find myself sort of "in the middle". I'm old enough(51)to help some of the local younger guys, but still learning something new everyday. It's a good position to be in. Now I have go back to the shop and get to work.

I disagree that it has been a bad influence, at least on me. After reading the HAMB all day at my desk job I can't wait to go home and get out to the garage. Aside of the technical help the HAMB has provided the friends and networking contacts I have made are priceless. Yes, us like minded folks would have ran into each other eventually but I'm glad the HAMB speeded it up!
