That's amazing. You've had your head up your ass for twenty one years. You'd think by now you'd understand custom cars.Besides, this whole post was simply a question about side chrome and so far you have'nt identified it.Expert?

hmmm...just saw the posted pic of this car 'done'...seems like something? was lost from the rough build to the finished product....as i initially liked some of the design features, the end was a bit of a let down - the paint and bodywork looked very good, but the 'stuck on' items like the taillights, wheel trim, headlights, and other such add-ons looked haphazard and not fitting with the smooth, custom style the car presents itself as.....good ideas mixed with ? stuff...

I had never heard of Ian Russel before... Mission accomplished...

This post isn't even about Ian Russel or his cars anymore...

It's about a bunch of 'Ian Russel Groupies' who get their panties in a bunch when their hero gets dissed...

People who think that car is an iconic example of "Kustom Kars" are so far beyond logic and good taste that no ammount of dialog is going to bring them back...
If that's your mindset, the HAMB is probably not going to be a comfortable experience for you.

But hey... We're all a bunch of idiots anyway... The Emporer's new threads are phresh...

This thread just keeps getting better and better. How has it lasted this long?

PS: I have the side trim off a 57 Buick Special in my garage. It has a peak to it in the middle, not flat like the stuff on the "thought provoking art car". I think he made that trim and it looks similar. If I remember before I leave on vacation I'll get a picture of it for you.

holy shit, I almost chimed in on this thread yesterday, but my better judgement made me bite my tongue. I'm not a fan of Ian's cars, I'm sure he is a great guy, that's what everyone who knows him has told me, but that has nothing to do with his work. That being said, it's not so much his cars that bother me, as it is the unbelieveable amounts of people who think that his cars are cool. I wouldn't even put in my 2 cents if I didn't think it was important, every ex mini trucker who sees this car and wants to emulate it, will destroy yet another example of our ever diminishing supply of vintage tin. I have seen perfectly good 50 merc 2 doors turned into garden art for the sake of "Ratrodding" and so what if a car starts out as a rust pile, it doesn't have to end up as a rat rod, the last 2 cars I built were extremely rough when I got them, and they are both tastefully done painted hotrods now. Now, Ian's shoebox has a level of finish his other cars don't, but that doesn't mean it's done with any taste, or care. Painting swallows on the hood, blade hubcaps, '37 headlights, it's all gimmick stuff to get people talking about the car, which obvioulsy worked. So yes, Ian is alot like Barris, and the quality of the cars have a movie prop feel to them, The first time I saw the Roadster pictured above, I thought they must be making a sequel to Batman & Robin, the one with the gay director who made it into a camp romp through Gotham, Bat-Nips and all. Not just to come down on Ian, but every builder, who is going for that, hey look at me, I used a toilet bowl for an air cleaner, need to re-examine why they are into this hobby at all. I can't wait till the next trend takes over, so all the wanna be Ian Rousells can find the next bandwaggon to ride. Whats sad to me, is that this board has become PC to the point where many people can't express their feelings about the crap thats being built, so the crap keeps getting built, and the people who used to be on here with good taste and building ability are leaving this site in droves. There are still some great people on the board, it's just harder to find them in between all the spiderweb grilles and switchblade hubcaps........

I agree with Dan, but from what I've seen the only thing stopping people from speaking their mind is themselves...

If you're afraid of the consequences and go somewhere else, that's on you...

If you're too lazy to speak up because you don't want to have to defend yourself for 3 days afterword that's on you (me) too... ;)
