Louie Senter, if he's still alive, lives in so cal. I think I have a semi recent magazine with an article with/about him? Be worth tracking him down for you if you could. I think he's part of the group that has breakfast everyday with Isky? Anyway, he owned Ansen and my buddy, who lived up in Parasise, built a 27 tub a few years ago with a chevy II in it. We ran into Senter at a sawpmeet here in orange county and were asking him about his equipment. He said that the ansen cross flow head was really for full throttle, wide open running. Made just for circle track. Be tough, he thought, to make it work on the street. If it were mine, I'd try like hell to make it work as they're very nice looking with that fined valve cover too. Found one at Turlock swapmeet a few years back but it was way out of my price range. My friend did pick up a cool mag for a chev II that same day.
He just ended up running a 140 mercruiser motor, 181 cubes, the gains from a bigger crank than the 153. And he had a 140 head too, a true 8 port head rather than the chevy head that has it's intake ports sharing one another. I have a 120 mercruiser for my T that I'm gathering parts for, mated to a '39 box. There was an old engine builder a few blocks away that built those little fours back in the day for 3/4 sprints (or what ever the class was) and he would use chev V8 heads on them, I think he's passed on now too. He said the bore centers were the same on the V8's and the banger and most of the head bolt holes even lined up. That'd be kinda cool.

Clifford sells a pretty nice intake manifold for the chevy II as well as header flanges.

...and dont for get those 1/2 SBC's that raced in that class too. Some were split down the middle and some were V4's. All were made obsolete by the VW's.

    RedDog,
Right after Christmas we're going to start building two 2.3 Ford short blocks with 16 valve Volvo heads. Injected with lots and lots of boost and dual fuel.

I was looking at couple of those Ansen sprinter heads here in Brisbane only a few months back. We never had Chev II Fours here so theres no chance i would run one in a hurry, but they look the part in a dirt style roadster or Modified.

Mac the Yankee and Mc kee,
We're building the engines to show off our new computer. We considered newer engines but went with the 2.3 because the short block is like an anvil, and it's cheap. The drawback is the head, not as much flow as later models. Volvo 16 valve heads flow 260 cfm at 430 (stock lift) Esslinger heads flow 280 at 585 lift. No brainer. St. Louisan Jon Hubers 8.96 3000 lb. street driven Mustang makes 800 plus H.P. with an 8 valve head and 30 lbs. boost. We're looking to make 500 to 600 and be streetable. Tool around on gas and go to methanol when in boost . No need for intercooler, no need to back timing way off. Stock 14.9 lb injectors for when on gas and big ass injectors for boost. 30-40 mpg when cruising. We will make the whole kit available when finished.
Should make an affordable street killer package for things like modifieds or buckets. The head requires some welding and machining, but it works, we did not invent this head conversion, it's been done before. Hope to have the package ready for the coming show season.

  15. Gemini,

Thanks for sharing the info- can't wait to hear about it when it's finished! Any pics or sites to visit to get a visual on the conversion?

    Thanks again, Bill

If my camera was working I'd show you pictures of my 4cyl Essex banger, I actually dug it out of the ground filled her up with tranny fluid, got it loose, had it checked for cracks, none. Now I'm sealing it up fabbing an intake and header, and am going to have Bob Bendston build me a tranny adapter for it at some point. I'm also restoring a Slant 4 International engine for my grandpa.

    Hey ,

I have been working on a 1917 Model T speedster lots of custom work as I have had to build lots of custom parts myself because of a very tight budget!!!( What budget, bills and family come first you know!!)

50 horse flathead Model T motor

Custom built 4 wheel disc brakes of an 83 Nissan pickup and 97 Mercury Mountaineer caliper adapted to use early board track racing wire wheels (Houck #4).

Subaru rack and pinion for steering

Custom lowered frame lowered 11 inches and stretched 12 inches in the front and 7 inches of lowering in the rear.

2 speed Ruckstell rear axle with 2.77:1 ring and pinion gear and 3 Warford overdrive behind stock 2 speed model T transmission.

Still have a long way to go still have to fabricate steering setup, hand throttle and spark assembly, foot throttle, run brake lines and bleed system and then start fabrication of aluminum hand formed boatail body.

Now those are some nice T's... Old school is the only way to go. How many hotrodders of today could even work on a Model-T let alone drive a three pedal Model-T!!!
