Chevy truck 10-bolt worth saving?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustynewyorker, Dec 18, 2007.

  1. I bought a third Suburban to part out and cure various ailments on two others I have. It's an '86 1/2 ton diesel, so the rearend in it should be a 10-bolt, 8.5" gear 5x5" bolt pattern, and most diesels had a 3.73 ge****t. I need to take at least one of the springs off it anyways, so I was wondering if this thing turns out to be a locker, if it's worth saving for anything hot-rod related?

If nothing else it would be a nice upgrade to another truck, but I never measured out how wide they are, and they do mount under the spring so in a car application new perches would have to be welded on.

If it's not a locker though it's going to the s****yard with the rest of the truck -

    probably a guvlock anyways....

    and rusty too!

although the gears could be useful, if that's what it is.

  3. The one I drive has the same thing in it, but a 2.73.. but it sure will get me around better than an open rear. At least if it's muddy or snowy out -

Open the glove box and look at the build sheet glued in it. Limited slip is G80 on the code sheet. Hope that helps.:)
