im going to go against everyone else here and say its too far gone to save. it needs 4 fenders and a deck lid - ALL big money items if/when they come up for sale. needs a rear valance, needs front inner fender, needs a grille, needs two doors, needs a new windscreen surround and the sheetmetal around the windscreen, needs work around the deck lid, needs running boards, need lights, no doubt the floor has more holes in it that a teabag so it will need a floor, needs front side cowl, no doubt the rear quarters are bent because of damagae to the roof.. and thats what can be seen from the pics... now remind us whats left? the frame and the firewall...

I know folks here are saying buy the roof off of ebay - how are you gonna fix the car once you take the roof off? whats left of the body is going to be so bent outta shape that the new roof wont even look at the hole where the old one came off. you can see the body is outta shape by looking at the pics from the rear of the car - its not even close to be square.

UNLESS you have lots of money, time and talent to fix it leave it be or sell it to the first person to offer you money for it.

What you said was exactly what I keep telling myself, despite all the hope the others have given me. The only good news is that I took the Decklid while I was there as it wasn't in too bad of condition. It was an original rumble seat coupe, and I knew it was too cool to let someone else take it:).

I still agree with you, but I'm gonna snag it anyway, and most likely hock it to those who really need the parts. Thanks for all the responses.

I'm interested in the rumble lid and the rear fenders!

  8. It's just like any other wreck, you put it on a table and pull it back into shape. Yeah, it takes a little skill and talent, but it's sure not hopeless. If you can do major customizing work, you can fix that body - some guys could even save the top, I'm sure.

If nothing else it's good for a stock car body, those get rolled and wrecked sometimes anyways.

levi i dont think its a bad thing to take it and break it for parts - i think its the most sensible thing to do with it.

rustynewyorker i agree with you to an extent - however most wrecks dont have as much rust in them as this one seems to have - i would have thought if this is put onto a jig to pull, the metal being pulled will crumble away.

I'm proud to say, after experiencing some of the restorations I've seen here on the HAMB, that's a fixer. How 'bout the guy in Norway taking that beat up 36 more-door and making something so beautiful to just about make grown man tear up.

Just needs a little "blacksmithing" to clean it up.

If you aren't going to pick it up.... Send me the treasure map, I'll come up and claim it.

  12. Anything is fixable. Take a look at mine in 1997. It had sat upside down in a ravine since 1958. No, that's not a factory sunroof. Very similar damage to your find.......... but worse. Found a spare roof a guy had for a chop that didn't get completed.

    Go for it.

After seeing that 36 coupe that the gentleman in Norway built, I'm starting to agree more and more about keeping it in one piece and trying to collect parts to make it road worthy. -Levi G-

It does look like a challange but.......I've seen worse brought back to life.....I don't know your skill set but......I've seen a few on here that probably don't think its that bad.......just not me.

    Good luck.
