well as some of you know, others may have guessed and the rest probably don't give a shit...i'm building a hot rod. not just any run of the mill model a or deuce though, they are just too...dare i say it...normal...in this world of hot rods. don't get me wrong, i love them but i have to build something different. enter a 1941 diamond t model 406 that i picked up from a construction site about two weeks before i found the hamb. after i dragged the hulk home i had all kinds of delusions of grandeur but until now, not much has happened with it due to time, money, life etc. lost a lot of the initial fire in the past 3+ years and it got pushed to the back of my mind. now comes in the part where the hamb really helped out...thanks to lakes modified on here i found one of my dream engines, a 346 cadillac flathead. he sold it to me for barely more than a song and a dance. only problem is that it was in oregon, 800 miles away. thanks to the hamb i've become good friends with a few people on here and tom (tomcat46) turned me on to a site called uship where i was able to get the thing down here for 150 measley bucks. now i have the truck and the engine and since i'm working at a shop now i have the space to do the engine work and will soon have the body down to start on my mad creation. basic plans are to section the bottom of the cab, removing the compartment beneath the doors and making the cowl square at the bottom (right now it has a 45* cut towards the cab following the fenders.) i'm going to chop it 2-3 inches to keep a pleasing proportion to it all as well. it's going on a different chassis and i'll use at most, the rear crossmember (in my avatar) and the front axle from the original. still working on exact chassis and any ideas will be appreciated though i have thought about the 49-54 chevy passenger car chassis after seeing one used in another thread a few weeks ago. engine is going to be worked over pretty well, it is seized right now from sitting outside for a few months with the carb off but it's a solid start. will have at least 2 carbs, manual trans (of course) and i'm shooting for around 250hp out of it. possible forced induction if something can be found but not terribly likely to find a trad setup for a flat cad. i will take pics as the process goes and keep you all posted, i'm hoping to have it running this summer...we'll see how that goes though now for the pics.
oh yeah, forgot to mention...the caddy arrived tonight. exactly 2 hours ago this moment. i was so excited waiting for it i almost peed myself
I like the angles, fenders, and compartment below the doors......Ya might just slam it with air bags......no cuts, Looks kool already
Have you considered narrowing the cab? I´ve a feeling it´ll look too wide after its been chopped and cut down.
it's not as wide as you would think. plus, i didn't tell you guys the chassis i'm planning on using or the overall style of the car...that's still a secret to keep people interested
That cab is great! It has real classy look....but I would peel those fake bullet hole stickers off of it.
mount what fenders? gotta show off the big bad caddy you know yeah, it's gonna take a bit of work to "peel" off those bullet hole stickers...it sat in a field for 45 years before i got it. lots of those in it.
your crazy. whats the word on the engine though last I heard it was still soaking and hadnt cranked over yet?
yeah, i've been told i'm crazy a few times. still siezed, but i'm taking the pan off tomorrow and gonna see if i can start making some progress. i've got a buddy who runs a machine shop with TONS of experience with this kind of stuff. his dad was a circle track racer and machineist from the 50's on up and he started his shop in 1969.
Kool truck. I had one and they are VERY tiny inside..before you start making it smaller, If you have not sat in it yet, give it a try...I guess you could be tiny too !!!!!!!!!!! I don't know....
