Anyone make 15x8" steel wheels with a 5 on 4" bolt pattern?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by shadowmtkustomz, Jun 10, 2007.

  1. the rear under my '50 dodge is from a 1966 plymouth valiant and has the small 5 on 4" bolt pattern. im running the stock valiant 13" wheels on the back right now but they are way too small. i thought wheel vintiques made the chrysler police wheel with 5 on 4" but it just turned out to be a typo. the only wheels i have found are the chrysler rally wheels. does anyone know where I can get a 15x8" steel wheel with the small bolt pattern?? thanks.

  2. I have never ever heard of a 15" 5 on 4. I doubt they exist.
You are running the old Valiant 7 1/4" rear, Yes? You will be much happier in the not so long run swapping that rear out for a more durable Mopar 8 1/4" or 8 3/4". The 8 1/4" all came with 5 on 4.5 pattern axles. You can easily get 5 on 4.5 axles to fit A-body 8 3/4" units.

The 7 1/4" unit is THE worst choice for your car. They were barely adequate for 6 cylinder Valiants and Darts. In a heavier car like your Dodge it's only a matter of time before it fails.

Going to the 5 on 4.5" will give you many wheel choices. They didn't make jack **** for the 5 on 4. You CAN get new Cragar SS and there were some other 5 spoke styles offered back in the 60's which can be turned up at swap meets or on E-Bay. Kind of rare but not much demand either.

  3. damn. that ****s.

the entire drivetrain under my dodge is '66 valiant which i bought in running condition for $250. so it was a good choice at the time getting it on the road after thirty years on a budget before i leave for bootcamp next week. it ****s that im going to have to swap out this rear, too, because it took alot to get it to fit. cutting off the spring pads and moving them in and welding them back on to match up with my leaf springs and custom shock mounts. oh well....

i heard that a 1957 ford 9" will fit under my dodge with no modifications and is 5 on 4.5" too. i guess i'll have to start looking....

i want to say the later a body stuff was 14" 4" pattern ...till maybe 75 ...then they went to 4.5 on the a body .....there was a local guy way back in the late 80's that had a v8 s10 with a a body 8 3/4 rear.....he had a pair of 15x8 small patterns....i can't remember what hoops he used ...but it required the 14" centers....might ask wheelkid (jimmy) on here....i've also heard a 63-65 b body is the same width.....on the rear end....though 63-4 are 2 piece axles......brandon:D

!3" 14", 15" wheels all use the same diameter centers, the rim is what makes the wheel it's true dimension. Take your wheels to a wheel shop and have them remove the 13" rims and install and true up a set of 15" rims.

  7. thanks for all of the help.

  8. I ended up finding some wheel adapters from Jegs. Easy fix, and a lot cheaper.

    Thanks again for the help.

thats wierd i searched the junkyards one day measuring all kinds of rims to try to use with the 14" centers for my brothers barracuda. i didnt find one that would work. and the 13"s i had on my 69 dart when i got it, the centers were even smaller. i know you can get after market hoops that will work but you have to find a source. im almost positive wheel vinteques can make the standard steel wheel in 15" with small bolt pattern. they changed from the small bolt pattern in 73. to 4.5". but they also dropped the 8 3/4 that year. so you could get a 4.5" 7 1/4 or 8 1/4. is the valiant rear a 7 1/4?

I mated 48 Plymouth 15" centers with Ford truck outers reversed. They were too wide for my 48 Plymouth with the Mustang 9" rear. Still have them. Will be in the Bay Area tomorrow. Oakland San Leandro. You can have the two for 50 bucks.

Centerline used to make that pattern in just about any size rim. I have a couple myself. I checked about 10 years ago for some more and they told me they were discontinued. Lack of decent sales #'s is what they told me. Check out some of the Dart/Valiant clubs. Might be some help there.

    Lots of luck!!!!!!!!!

All you have to do is pull your axles and drums, take them to a machine shop and have 5x4.5 BC put in or send to moser axle. Might cost a couple hundred, but it's an easy way to do it.

Hate to dissagree but Mopar did make both 8 1/4 and the 8 3/4 for A bodys with the 4" bolt patterns. I had both under various 68 Barracuda's I owned back in the early 70's. Real ***** finding wheels even back then, especially 15".

  23. The small pattern 5 on 4 8 3/4s are well known. My Direct Connection and Mopar Performance info says that the 8 1/4 was introduced in 1969. In 1973 it was introduced with the 4.5 pattern on disc brake equipped A-bodies.
I know the 8 1/4 showed up on the 6 cyl and 318 powered B & E bodies. I haven't seen any information that says an 8 1/4, 4.0 pattern showed up on a 1969-72 A-body. I have never seen an example. Every ****er type I've had of that era was a 7 1/4. The 7 1/4 stayed in production for years afterward.

Nothing I've got leads me to think they exist but if someone can show me some proof I'll accept it.
