I have started the chop on my 53 chebby it's a 210 but I ditched the wrap around rear window and used a donor roof from a 50ish fleetline let me know what you think. It's my first time so be easy on me I am pretty sure you guys can give me some pointers. I have the A pillars tacked in and the one C pillar tacked and the rear window in place.

The first two pics are of it mocked up to see the profile I changed the roof line a little from those pics. The third is my partner in crime Lou the shop dog.

I am by no means an expert (been finishing up a chop for 1.5 years) but I think it's looking great. However, it does look like you made your job quite a bit tougher by swapping the rear window. My buddy has a chopped 54 with the big back window. On his car the gl*** was just sunk into the trunk. It gives you alot less surface area to work, fab and sand. Not saying that the old top looks better, just that it's easier. Anway, it really looks like it's coming along great!

  6. Interesting combo.....so what was wrong with the Fleetline that it deserved a neck up lobotomy??

The fleetline I found in a local s**** yard and was days away from being crushed and was in really rough shape but the roof was nice so my mind got going and I ended up chopping the roof off.I hoped the fleetline roof would work and it seems like the lines flow pretty well.

Looks good. It's good to see the 53's and 54's being done so many different ways. I just bought my friend's chopped 53 project and we used a 41 ford sedan back window (meant a lot of metal work). It is also hardtopped. I'll try to get pics posted soon. Good luck and keep us updated.:)

Thanks guys for the nice words. It seemed like it was easier to use a different window I think the wrap around would be hard to get to look correct and if you have to cut it down you are just looking for trouble. I like the look of the hardtopped cars but I was unsure how to get the windows to seal at the back side of the doors. This is going to be the family car and wanted to the be air ***e so we can use it in the cooler weather months.
