I am getting a LS7 out of a wrecked vette for my 32 pro street truck. What will I need to do to install it, and get it running? I am getting the motor, gas petal, wiring harness, computer, an the exhaust just past the firewall. What will I need to get it going in my truck? maybe Fuel system, or different harness or computer? HELP
Try Street & Performance or Howell. You can use the existing harness, but it will look ugly. They/others can make custom harnesses and re-program the ECM/PCM brain. These originally supported a lot more functions that you will never need and it cleans up the install. You will need a return line on the gas tank. Things like cruise control are supported, but on that car, clean installs are a must.
If you are asking those kind of questions this early in the game. you need to find some one that has done something like this and do it with you. There is alot to this. and answering your questions also requires alot more information about your goals. p.s. this is going to start a shitstorm about traditionalism
MSD makes a complete harness and controller for both Injected and carburated engines for both LS1 and LS2 types ...covers LS6 and 7s also Using thier system on a 364/440 LS2 carbed engine in a project 66 Buick Skylark(Special) for Fastest Street Car Magazine. Mark
Finally, something I do know a little about..haha GM has just released a stand alone controller w/ harness for this set up. Check on GM Performance parts web site for the part number. Also, You'll make more power and get the whole set-up running if you ditch the Fuel injection and run the Cab intake set-up. MSD offers a very simple 4 wire set-up to get it running w/ carb.
I have a thread going over there, but only a small amount of imput so far. I had heard GM makes a install kit. Not sure what I need for a fuel system. I know the LS7 does not use a return. And the LS7 had a remote try of start button, so not sure if I can just use GMs install kit and do away with that.I am just looking for all the help I can get. So all info helps.
try some of the sand rail sites they use the ls1-ls7 alot . other wise for the most part this is not the place for all that new fangeled engines stuff. oh geez here we go again.
Well I thought car guys were car guys. And all the info I can get helps. I hope all car guys, dont have that harley mentality.
Dude you are in the wrong place, pro street and engines run by computers are not traditional hot rods and customs. I'm not trying to be mean or rude, but this isn't the place to ask those questions. You'd want a place like ls1.com, ls2.com, or like somebody else said, ls1tech.com. Some place that does street rod type things. I understand why you'd want to do that and that's your choice because it's your ride, but this place is focused on traditional rods and customs. Most car guys are car guys, and it's not really the "if you don't ride a harley, you don't matter mentality." But those types of things never get a warm response. Sorry to bring ya down.
harley mentality? wtf are you talking about... go back and read this... Read This First! well said sir...
