There was also the Type 3 Ghia. They were never officially brought to the US but they always ended up over here.
A true " hater " can spot a suck thread a mile off and avoid it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPDLX0koXFs
Original BRM'S are fetching big big money right now overseas. I have seen real sets go for 8,000-10,000 dollars. I passed on a set 8 years ago for 1000 wtf was I thinking
I know it wouldn't be fun but that thing would look great with a few inches off the top. I have a 66 bug, Okay, there I said it!
i have a 66 squareback im getting ready to do a chop top and fill in the side windows....front engine rebuild with a ford rearend....baggs.....no telling what else might happen with it
very nice ride, never saw one, or the anthracite color...it's a head turner. hope I catch it when you paint.

FNG, no need to test the waters with pointing out about whether this thread gets bitched out, closed or not. enough said about that... that said, i really dig this notch. you going to run bumpers or keep as is? normally i'd always say bumpers (i had the really rare overriders on mine,) but this car looks good w/o them. -scott noteboom
i've NEVER been in the closet about my love of the V-dub and i won't pretend to hate them no matter who is watching. my first car was a 66 Beetle. got it when i was 13. learned alot about cars, bodywork and mechanics because of that car. it realy got me started in the whole car hobby thing. i'd always loved old cars but actually having one in my possesion got me serious about em. even though all i did was take that car apart and eventually throw it in the garbage (after my 7 year old brother and his friend beat it to death with pipes) i did ALOT of day dreaming, reading, research and drawing of ideas for that car. just came across some old scetches the other day in fact. had thoughts of building a woodie hot rod out of it (i had no metal working skills or tools at that time), a pick up, a roadster, a baja and even a snow track! ahhh, the endless daydreams of my youth... somethings never change . love that notch by the way. about 7 years after he smashed my bug into a sad wad of metal i nearly bought my little brother a fastback. cool little car, shoulda bought it... still lookin for a split or oval to hot rod the hell out of. nice notchback! since 7 years, I own a type 3 Ghia and I'd never sell it. but they do look horrible in stock condition, they need a serious lowering, at least. and they're worth to be hopped up!
type 3 is hot. hands down my favorite body style although a nice notch, fast or squareback is pretty damn cool. hawaii has a ton of cool vw's. but i've never seen a type 3 here.
Before I had enough money to get in to hot rods notches were what I built in the 80's. Had a feature in VW Trends back in 1994. Still have one in storage that will get built one day when the drive is there to do it, right now its just hot rods. Do you have narrowed bug beam in that now?
wont have bumpers on it i like the smooth transition of the body lines with out.....this is my second one to build first one was a squareback but it is way more custom than this car...... the next car i build will be chopped....i have a bunch of type3's and a few singlecab trucks also the frontend is a narrowed type1 based beam i built from scratch......new tubes new mounts new bushings new adjusters....its narrowed 5 inches
