hey guys, just picked up my 59 390 and i was wondering if the stock fuel pump could support a 6x2 setup. it originally had a 4 barrel on it, but i doubt that it will. let me know. also, wheres a good place to buy speed parts and replacement parts
go electric... affordable and works well.. carry a spare in the trunk if u like being prepared (tihs is my way of remembering i need to put one in my trunk still hahha)
dont know why it would not. I used a stock one on my 327 with 6x2. you do not want a lot of pressure, (actually usually lower then what a 390 4 brl would want. just 2 to 3 psi.. volume should not be an issue
Depends on how you drive it. Probably fine if you just want to putz around with it. Maybe even ok for a short blast of power until the float bowls run low. Like the guy said, electric is probably a good bet.
The factory pump did keep up with a duel-quad factory setup so it should be fine for your 6-2. Unless you are full on racing!! I would, personally, back it up just for saftey with an electric pump. Ter409
I think it's all about Volumn. How much Fuel can your motor handel? If your 6X2 set up is just looks and you don't do Cam, Head and Exhaust work, leave the Stock pump on it. I've never had a Manual pump just **** out and leave me on the side of the road. Electric ones do that, just Die. Like 409 said, Dual Quads stock with a manual pump. What more do you need? Keep it Simple, you'll be a lot happier. The Wizzard
food for thought- there is no difference between a fuel pump for Tri power pontiac and 4 barrel pontiac (389) (or hell, 2 barrel poncho, for that matter)- and that motor will turn higher r.p.m., and "out drink" a Caddy any day. I would Imagine it will be fine. If not, buy a Carter Electric. Mine supports a ton of power. (and it's goin on 8 years old.)
unless you are going on long full throttle runs, the Caddy mechanical fuel pump should work fine. -scott noteboom
