Im in need of some headers for my 52 chevy, The catch is that it has a sbc and in order to clear my stock steering box the headers need to be tucked pretty close to the motor. Does anyone know of a header manufaturer that builds this style of headers?

Probably Sanderson. They make some blockhugger ones that fit real close. Kinda street roddish, but, they work.

Hedman shorty Camaro headers bolt right in, I have them in my 51 chevy Hedman part number 68501.

I am running into this same problem, but I have a camaro subframe in my '54. The steering box is an old chev truck, I believe. So far, the only headers I've been able to fit is the old rams horn style. Even those are within a 1/4 inch, maybe less, of the steering box. I'm looking at some Hedman "tight tuck" style headers that may work. They look to stay pretty tight to the block, but the collector/flange is right about where the steering box is, so that may defeat the purpose. I'm not sure what the best solution is going to be. I'm looking forward to the suggestions from this thread.

I run the ****** tight-tuck headers on the 54. I still had to heat and dimple the left header to keep it from rattling on accelertion. Other than that they work fine. Sanderson does make a header specifically for sbc in 49-54 Chevies.

i found an exaust manifold off of early 90's half ton chevy that will work real nice with my setup. The only thing is i gotta cut a port through my firewall to run it through, but considering the price difference and the fact that they look pretty freakin cool, id say its worth it.

  9. The lowbuck way to do it was to use manifolds from a 265(?) or 305 from a late 70s econo-motor Monte Carlo, Malibu, or maybe in a Monza as well. Headers they ain't, but they were close enough to work in some pretty tight spaces. I forget if the small version of the V8 was a 265 or 267 or what, there were Olds and Pontiac motors about that size too.

Tee Hee- next time you see a new school Impala or Caprice, check out the exhaust manifolds. They actually look cool with the heat shields pulled off of them, too.

3/4 dump, straight down, 2 1/4 outlet, and a real tight profile to the block.

I am just finishing up a motor replacement at work on a 1996 Caddy Fleetwood with the LT1 motor. I was thinking the same thing about the manifolds but this one has big holes for the A.I.R. pump/tubing.
A little reminesent of the old Mopar manifolds.

They also use the outermost bolts similar to the mid 80's 305. May not work on some set ups, but would definately look cool if you can make them fit.

  15. Do you remember which model or style header you are using from Sanderson? I checked out their site and nothing specific for our trucks, many to pick from tho, but hard to tell by pictures

Just had a 350 installed and ordered some Sanderson headers from Chevy of the 40's. Stock steering and stock suspension. You can run hi-temp silicone instead of gaskets per installation directions.
