  1. Rick,

I remember that article...I thought it was cool, you actually showing that sometimes things go wrong. They made legal threats 'cause you told the truth? I believe, officially, that makes them suckheads.

I am still laughing stupidly at your description of that truck. I'd insult it too, but I can't come up with anything that funny.

Something is very wrong with the equation...

  10. Sorry- but it looked like a whole lot of highly sophisticated, poorly orchestrated bad planning to me..... [IMG] I mean who in the fuck has to saw the entire wheel opening lip off and dolly it flat to get the tires to clear on a truck entirely built "in house"?[while they tried to upholster it at the same time]I mean they did it all from body to chassis and EVEN tire choice -wheel selection?????SHIT--I thought for a second I would get to show my wife I knew as much as the "big dogs" do- [when they mentioned the top chop]- I had no Idea they meant- lopp it off! Also, I bet the color choice was a last ditch effort to get a "finished" product, when it really was not "quite there"-for real color.........Yeah- I was impressed! [IMG]

That's a true friend, you guys. Lownslow left his gorgeous wife at home on his birthday to come rescue my broke down ass. No questions other than 'Where are you?'

One of 3 times he dropped everything to help out a homeboy..

You know you're my hero, Donk.

I did learn a lesson from the whole ordeal..

Thats what I was thinking too. Some of that sheetmetal looked pretty wavy when they showed the wet Primer going on.

without the glasses has NO STYLE...!!
    No previous 'thoughts' or 'planning',
    just 'build as you go'..??

True Craptsmanshit if you ask me...

    everything from the Mercedes headlights,
to the flat black afterthought of a paint job,
(come ON..!! for a one off 'custom'..?? no pride...)
    to the ugly dash/center console,
    to the ultra Ugly-Dub-ling wheels,
to the way too laid-back windshield...

That abortion of a vehicle has got to be a true
showing of the wasted time/'talent' at that shop...

Come on guys, get off the crack..!!!

I guess you either have style, or you don't have style...

I talked to these guys last year at Bakersfield and was asking about ride height vs bag height and the idiot told me they just put the bags in and then inflated till it looked right. When I asked about the bag's height at ideal ride height he didn't know what I was talking about..... I walked away cause this "expert" didn't know anything.
On the show I got a kick out of cutting slots in the sheet metal to get it to bend in a straight line. Can't they afford a brake?

"There isn't much in the way of computer-aided drawing, modern-day technical preplanning or years of model building before they begin a car..." They just start fucking shit up with no forethought or game plan.

Those are the HACKS that did such a shitty job installing bags on my heap. Their "suspension expert" was the brake and alignment HACK they stole from the local Firestone retailer.

HACKS that over-welded on my rear axle housing which tweaked the ends 1/4-inch out of true, causing it to spit the right axle twice before I figured out the problem and had it straightened. Lost a tire each time when the whitewall grinding itself to dust on the inside of the quarter was the only braking action available once it let go.

HACKS that built bar-mount brackets that ripped out of the x-member leaving a tear big enough to stick your hand into.

HACKS that installed the rear bags BEHIND the axle for the minimum-possible amount of lift.

Not to mention SHITTY four-bar geometry..

    HACKS HACKS FUCKING HACKS

Of course they wouldn't let me write about THAT part of the install in R&C.. I did mention the bracket that ripped out of the frame in an R&C update and they (HACKS) threatened to sue the magazine because I printed the truth..

I'd have been better off with the leaf springs, air shocks and spring wrap-up on acceleration that I started with. Instead, my car rode the ramp truck 4 times before I worked out all of their shitty 'fabrication'.

Did I mention that they're HACKS?

I did get a free t-shirt though, I used it to mop up an oil spill in the driveway.

Oh, and I coiled a bowl-winder this morning with ten times the style of that ruined Chevy truck. They should have restored it, at least it would have had another chance at being cool in the future.

The truck was ugly. I have to say I did like the bed, but it needs a tailgate if it's a shoptruck.

These guys are suppose to be the IFS specialists, yet all these guys did was show us bodywork and sheet metal work, and then the chassis magically appeared. Who the hell spends $200,000 for a shop truck, and if it is a shop truck why the hell do you use a supercharged fuel ingected LS1 motor.

Rides is nothing more than a paid advertisement. It would of been a complete waste of time if it wasn't for the Hottie tig welding up the exhaust.

Yikes, am I glad that I stayed the hell away from these guys. Several years ago I was on the west coast at the Goodguys Pleasanton show and talked to Justin Padfield about his front end kits for my '40. He definitely seemed interested in building one for me , but when I tried to pin him down on the amount of time it would be before I got one built and shipped, he danced around that subject like James Brown doing his "I feel good" routine. Hmmmmm, he didn't give me the warm and fuzzies, to say the least. And, I didn't feel good about giving him 1/3 down just to be put on the waiting list. He's in California and I'm in upstate NY. Who's going to be the loser when he doesn't do what he says he would do? It ain't going to be him! As it turned out, I'm glad I waited as I had an old friend with lots of roundy-round experience build a torsion bar front for my '40. It is a work of art and I'm glad I waited.

Holy crap!! "BOWL WINDER"!? I'm gonna use the hell outta that! The truck sucked. The paint? "Well, we're not even close to done. Let's throw som flat black on this wavy p.o.s. and call it done." I really liked the way the headlights aimed at the stars. But, do stars really need lights? The bling-a-ding-ding wheels and tires looked like left-over hoodrat garage sale items and the best part? "Needs a little trimmin to make these ill-fittin' tires to actually fit! Billy-Bob!! Get my sawzall and a dolly n hammer! Damn this looks good!"

The place was a wreck, They used the plasma WAY too much, the guys were hacks...the truck looked stupid and not well executed, they hid thier flaws with flat black...and they used the wrong rims for the car. Ignore them and they will go away. BUT it was still fun to watch other guys work for a change...

Too bad they have some talent working in that shop that might be better utilized somwhere else.

All I kept thinking while watching it was...except for the amount of space they had, I could do the same thing with a crew of 8 guys in 90 days out of my garage! They looked totally unprofessional. The Foose show at least showed what it takes to create a nice, one-off, professionally created design from a rendering. I felt like any of us could have come up with that truck, at home, for WAY less then they must have spent...and it would have at least looked cool.

I totalled up the hours today at work while I was bored...at $85.00 and hour times 5 guys working 8 hours a day for 90 days (which is really conservative compared to what they claim as the hours they put in)...it's up over $300,000 to make that truck JUST IN LABOR if Joe Blow walked in and asked for that abortion case to be done up that way...The engine alone had to be worth at lest ten grand....WTF I am so sick of "Mercedes" lights I wanted to puke when I saw how much they messed up that front end.

I still like the show though. It beats "Friends" hands down...or whatever other crap they have on TV on Tuesday nights...

Had to resurrect this thread as we were on the subject of botched jobs.
My fault for letting them touch my car. I actually should know better as I worked there for a couple of months. When I realized that Justin was NEVER going to spring for decent tools or even workbenches...and when I saw some of the work coming out of there...
I tried to stay on friendly terms with an old boss, and we traded some labor. I worked on his abortion of a chopper, in trade for doing the work they did on my car, over again.
Let's just say that I don't think he gets any local jobs anymore. His rep is shot here.
