Not too many dedicated to just customs. More rods than anything. But, Customs illus., Traditional Rod and Kulture. Rod and Custom still puts out some decent features. The relaunch of Hot Rod Deluxe looked promising if it stays around.

Goodguys has the best monthly magazine and The Rodders Journal is the best quarterly mag.

Goodguys is Great and for the price rod & custom is worth the money.
I like going to Barns and Noble and grabing a stack of my favorite car magazines and grabing a seat and looking through all of them for nothing, Every once in a while I'll buy one. They serve drinks and what not too!

Don't forget Kustoms Illustrated, if you're into customs.

But TRJ and Rolls and Pleats are my other favorites too.

I"m a big fan of TRJ. However the only subscription I have is to Autoweek. I buy some mags, but i roll to the book store and decide which ones i want. I very rarely find one mag that makes me happy every month.

Looks like Hot Rod Deluxe is going to be the same waste of money it was before ... you'd think they could hire somebody that can tell a Rambler from a Lark ...
Get Rodder's Journal if you can afford it. If I have to spend $5 or more for a magazine, it'll be a 50+ year old back issue.

The man's correct. Go to B and N or Borders or someplace, grab a handful and some coffee and read them yourself. Are you looking for ideas in design, historical perspective or how to? Find what suits you and then buy a couple of issues to make sure. TRJ is fantatstic, but there's a big difference in price, and presentation, from R and C.

i dont subscribe to magazines anymore,,,

..i look at them at wal mart and barnes & noble for free.

man,,i dont now if you've noticed or not,,,but they have all gotten real thin....

,,,being on the HAMB every day and at least 3 or 4 times a day....looking at a magazine at the news stand is like looking at a bunch of watered down pencil pushing ****....

magazines are pretty much ******** nowadays,,,its always the same old goodguys show coverage or some california car featured,....

nothing against california,as that was my birthplace as well as where i grew up...but if all you ever read were magazines with out the HAMB,,,you would be lead to belive that hotrods and customs are ONLY built in california,,,looking at this months issue or R&C,,,i was like "...****,,they need to get out and about if thats all they are going to cover,,,,"
yeah,,,this issue also had the 'book cover ' with the "last issue" warning,,,oh well....

with tha said,,,i DO really like GARAGE mag,,,it's NOT a car magazine,,,but it suits me well,,,and I DO like TRJ!... i dont buy it ever issue,,,i should, because ever time i do,it is a trip back into time....

but like i said,,,**** magazines,,,,if you want to look at magazines,,do like i do and pikc up every old magazine you can come across at the next swap meet,,,48-early 60's HOT ROD..lil pages R&C from the 50's ,CAR CRAFT..they are all good!

oh yeah,,,one thing i forgot to say about magzines,,,

is that i have learned over the years, i'm 34,but i have been in this car scene since before i had a drivers license,,and i have learned,,its NOT about having the coolest car,or best built car or anything like that,,,it's ALWAYS been about WHO your friends are with in the magazine world,,ever notice how some people who build mediorcore cars are always in the magazines and exhaulted as heros??? its been that way since car magazines where first started...

ok,,i'm done:) ..im going to bed now:)

Garage-not really a "car" mag, but manditory anyhow
Rodders Journal- pricey but worth it.
    This Old House- nuff said.
Sunset-For "western" living, keeps Mrs. off my ***
    National Dragster-cant shake the habit
Hemmings- a telephone book load of Junk(stuff)

#1: Kustoms Illustrated, why? MORE Kustoms than any other mag out there.

#2: Rodders Journal. Great mag, BUT....they really don't feature enough Kustoms. Sorry, but NO they don't. Check each issue, and you're lucky to see 2 customs, instead of only one. I'm not really "into" rods, so seeing a dozen 32 Fords in one issue doesn't turn my crank.

#3: Rod and Custom. Not bad, but again, way more rods than customs.

The rest are more "lifestyle" magazines, showing more tatoos, music related ****, pale skined Bettie Page look-a-likes, and other non-car related stuff. Sorry, if I buy a car mag, I want mostly "car stuff". My tastes in life are not necessarily the same as whoever else is buying these mags. I feel it's a waste of my money to devote so many pages to tattooed chicks I don't think look nice, and not to car related articles and pics.

I would go with Rod and Kulture if you want to get something regularly- but quarterly the Rodder's Journal is amazing.
But, judging by replies so far it really is a personal deal as to what you are in to. Rodshop

I would agree. Throw in the Hop Up annual and you're pretty much set.
