Opened a qt of activator yesterday to shoot my interior pieces and there were chunks in it. Not like it was seperated. Looked more like if it had dried on top and then you just mixed it up. It was unopened from the store. Sat in my house until I opened it. I didn' t know if anyone else has had this happen lately.
Once hardner is opened it traps air in can and accelerates its shelf life.Hok has batch #s call them up.I've never had any problems with their tech dept.
Hardener for paint or activator for the epoxy primer (light blue stuff)? If its the light blue stuff, you need to mix the **** out of it on a shaker. If you think the chunks are bad stick a stick to the bottom and feel the bottom of the can. If its regular hardener, its probably bad.
I have had epoxy and urethane hardener go bad in the can, I have used it and a week or so later it was hard like fibergl***......What needs to be done with hardener is when you use so much of it to put the remainder in a smaller container so there isn't all that air trapped in the can, jar or whatever is used...This is very common.....only buy the amount of hardener you will need at the time and not in large qaunity and intend on using it months down the road as it may be okay but after it's been open it is a gamble on how long it will last...Once it's chunky all you can do is strain it and hope the rest will set up properly when mixed with the clear.......
