My daughter Molly raced up it driving a Sterling semi tractor prepared by Mike Ryan in 2002.
1000hp Detroit with an Allison 6 speed
We were out there several times to practice in the early morning hours.
It was huge fun for her but as her Dad; I was scared ****less.
I got to flog the rental car.

  6. [IMG]Did it in "56" in a "51" Mercedes. Watched the race in "56" won by one of the Unser's in a Chevy, he had his rear tires throwing up a rooster tail out on the edge of the berm all the way up Announcer said, "You can buy this car from your local dealer" 1 st. time that a "stock" car had won since "34". We saw old 4 barreled sprints and one with a Jaguar 6, also a Wayne Chevy , might have been a GMC. These old sprint's were converted into what was known locally as "hill cars". The local Packard dealer entered a 4 door Patrician that vapor locked 3/4 up the "hill" I knew a local driver, Keith Andrews, and he and others practiced every day that they could, they could run until 8;30 or 9 AM before they opened the gates to the public.[IMG] This car was owned by a driver named Crawford I believe his family owned a large market in El Monte Ca We saw him coming and had to jump, he landed in the ditch and crawled out from under.

Rode a 1999 1300 Suzuki to the top in 2006. Kind of fun to look at the weather(clouds etc.) a few thousand feet below mixing it up. More and more of it gets paved as time goes by. Will eventually be ruined in my opinion for the unique racing that goes on now. 54chop

I would love to take my roadster up there, or anything for that matter. Is it open to the public anytime?

I did it in my 60 Chevy in 1961. When I got to about 10,000 feet I had it floored and could only get about 15 to 20 MPH out of the V-8. Not a lot of air above 10K feet. Coming down was a whole different story, wish I would have had disc brakes back then. Great expierence, do it if you get the chance and hope you don't meet any sightseeing busses. No guard rails and a very narrow road in places.

I haven't raced it, but driven it many many times. Entry fee is too high, and my race car too underpowered. Also, they are paving it (slowly) all the way to the top. I have crewed for several rally car teams, and compete in the local hillclimb series as well. Look here for more:

And for the Colorado hillclimb ***ociation (CHCA)

I drove it but never raced it. I took my 40 chevy with a 2x4 carb setup to the top. I have alot of respect for the guys with balls big enough to take those corners on that mountain!! I could see no good place to crash. Also the people tuning the cars!! My 40 was a blubbering mess at about 2/3 of the way up.

I raced up the hill on motorcycles a few times. Last time was about 1982. It was always exciting. We got no pratice and qualified on the lower section (to Glen Cove) and after a break there we did a pre-run (no race speeds) from there to the top.

Driven up it many a time in a variety of street vehicles, over the years. Wrenched for Bob Regester in 1980, when he won rookie of the year in the stock car cl***, driving Ralph Brunings old car.

Drove up it in 1986 in a rental Jeep, got sick from al***ude and had to park on the way down and rest. learned that flying out there from the east coast and driving up the next day was not a good idea.
