Here's my '27, mocked up so I could measure for a radiator. It turned out how I wanted! I have had to change some things (got it as an unfinished project). All I can say is it is important to wheel the car out and look at it on the street, squint and look at the overall car. You'll see what needs to be done. I'm hoping for a traditional appearing car that maybe looks dual purpose (lakes and circle track). I know there are definite period flaws (Ford 302 and disk brakes) but the budget only allows what i have now! This roadster is my first hot rod- all my others have been A-body Pontiacs and Olds's, and a few '50s cars. I think the roadster has a good look, and I'm actually really happy! I need to tear it apart again, but it's getting close! I even drove it with a big full size GM radiator wired and clamped to the frame horns...It worked! Woo Hoo! It steered, stopped and shifted; and that is all I wanted! Even my $80 C4 trans from the want ads not only works, but came rebuilt! Sorry for the shameless rambling, just wanted to show where I'm at!
I see a lot of T's that don't look right and very few that I do like. I want to like them in general, but apparently they are hard to pull off right. Yours is one of the good ones. Keep it up, and let us see the progress.
I totally dig that. I've been day dreamin' about a 27 T roadster myself. There are a lot of them that look just wrong, but that one you got there looks correct from every angle. Love that sucker! OK, you only have started 2 threads including this one! WTF! Man, you gotta do a thread showing the build on this car. I need some more fuel for my day dreams about how I'm gonna build one just like it some day.
Lookin' Good! I could be wrong, but wasn't that the project for sale at the fairgrounds swap last spring? I looked it over closely and seriously considered buying it. Now I'm really regretting not snagging it! Oh well, you're doing good with it and I'm glad it went to a good home. You've made a lot of progress and it looks a lot better. I'll say Hi when I see it on the road. Tom
Yep, this is it! I was hesitant at first because the welds, etc. looked pretty crappy. But it had the right look as far as general proportions, and it came with what I needed. This is my first real early car, and I'm learning alot. I do know what I want it to be, and I'm trying my best to stick to that.
Looks really good, man. Keep it up! Don't sweat the 302 and disc brakes. Build what you want with what you got. The most important catagory to strive for is: Built well by OWNER.
You Nailed it, Great stance and it has "the" look. Straight off the Roadster races at the Speedway posters.
Cool, I wasn't going to mention the scarey welds. But that's the reason I didn't buy it. I'm sure you'll fix the welds and it will be a great car. Keep us updated on the progress. Tom
That is HANDS DOWN the best compliment I've ever received on a car. I truly wanted the car to look as you agree it does. I've been drooling over early photos from Don Montgomery's books, Rodder's Journal, and The Birth of Hotrodding. I was very picky about the appearance, and I really can't take credit for the whole car- it's basic setup and lines were put together by an unknown amateur rodder who gave up on his project. It eventually ended up in my hands, and I'm doing (and RE-doing) alot to keep it looking like an old track/lakes car. Thanks SO much for this positive input, I'm getting more confident about these early cars. I hope to build another someday, maybe a coupe or an AV8 roadster.
nice brother... i love the 26-27 T roadster. i know others will disagree, but i think it's the best of all the 20's-30's bodies. Like that mr48 said you nailed it. update with more pics.
This might be your first build but it does have "the look". Keep going in the direction your going and be sure to keep posting the progress. You might want to reference Zack Suhr if you get stuck. He's making a life's work out of seeing these things look "correct". Frank
