I know most guys/gals hate to tell you where their "secret" junk yard is but come on guys. I need some mounts from a 58 dodge and a few other parts to finish my 57 chrysler. I always went to DeGroot`s in fairbault but he sold out and the new guy crushed everything. He was the guy where everything was under $20. Unless you were buying something BIG. I always email French lake auto just to laugh at the prices he gives me. I just asked about a 383 mopar PS pump and he said $150? WTF. I asked him if he had any of the old greasy style or do they only have the 24k gold dipped style. He has not responded back. So please if anyone knows of a good yard somewhat close to the twin cities(minnesota) let me know. If you dont want to post it here, PM me or email me ckj461sd@charter.net You dont have to worry about me buying all the "good parts" I barely have enough to pay for the parts I need. Later Jason

FLAP ain't bad, you got "phone prices", i guarantee if you show up at the yard, pull the pump yourself and carry it up to the office you won't pay anywhere near $150. i used to live just a couple of miles from there so it was my regular yard.

windy hill auto wrecking can be good, but their stock is old and pretty well picked over, but sometimes you get lucky there. even if you find nothing, it's worth the trip to spend the entire day browsing the yard, it's something like 200 acres of cars, mostly 60's n older, but their bread and ****er is now late model stuff.

Ya, go to french lake, floyd has always been fair with me, i think hes the owner, a real nice guy.

Hows about a junkyard crawl midwest??

windy hills crushed about everything, i dont ever plan on going back, :( it was a neat place for a long time for me, we use to roof junp from roof to roof to get around, you have to be able to jump a fricken mile to do that anymore. but there are still parts hear and there.

ask Skyspop here on the hamb, hes in rochester, he may know of a few good yard around there.

  4. ALWAYS talk to Floyd or one of his sons , leave the counter person to do the phone stuff, he tried to hit me for 15$ for a mouse stinkin used glove box for a 56 chevy, ripped yet! hell! repop is only 12 bucks, Floyd n the boys are REAL car guys :D tho, talk to them. the last time i tried to hold out on a yard location I screwed myself as I got sick and by the time i got back out there the yard AND my three cars were GONE ,but it seems all of my secret hidy holes are gone now, so except for French Lake and Pauls, I'm out lookin like everybody else , the recent rise in s**** cost us old car guys a LOT of cars ,even F.Lk. is crushing old stuff.:(

  5. Go to FLAP, pull off a bunch of MOPAR stuff from the mopar area, and make a pile, I mean a BIG PILE. Grab everything you ever think you might need. you'll pay 150 bucks for the pile. If you only buy one little thing, they will hit you big, because they think it's special and you gotta have it. A pile of parts is just a pile of parts.....

degroot's sold out? i dont think so. maybe? did they really crush everything? i was just there a year or so ago, i know they changed their name to Johnson Auto. as i remember it, they do a lot of newer stuff near the gate, and all the old stuff was in the very back in a limestone pit that usually fills up w/ h2o right winter. does anyone know if its still around? ***us? stevie?

degroot's now "johnsons" still has a couple of cars n trucks but yes they crushed most everything theres about 1/8 of what there used to be pre 65.
i just found some jewels stuffed away but i've be going there for 25 years and knew where them bones were buried.
kenny built a house off the south side and still has a bunch of stuff. but dont go to his place first. they dont like it when people come up from his place.
    it's a ******* thing.

i like the idea of a midwest yard crawl.

  8. yes , the yard is still there...but as previously stated , it has been sold and there are new owners. the new owners s****ped a lot of stuff.

fortunately , kenny saved a lot of the good old stuff for himself and didn't sell it with the yard , and has it in his private stash...i'm not sure if any of that stuff is available for sale

  9. oh , yeah Misgen Auto parts in ellendale is my favorite yard. jim , the owner , has crushed a lot of late stuff with the steel prices going through the roof...but he is a car guy and usually saves anything old and puts it to the side .worth a try

the last time i was at French Lake i heard the sons had bought out the father an were running it

Not close to the Cities, but has anyone been to that yard up North in Emily? It's been a good 10+ years since I was there last, but at that time they still had some early stuff. Just wonder if it's still around.

In Austin there's Carney's. They bought out the old Crew's yard which had all kinds of old cars, however I know that they are selling them off - whole cars not parts. If you call ask for the Old Crews lot.

There is an all Ford place out of Hastings that can take some time from your life if you like to browse around. Don't recall the name but I can find it if needed. He has a pile of semi trailers and school buses full of **** we dug through also. Nice guy!

Joe's in Vermillion (west of Hastings) is a pretty good yard, but as mentioned they are all Ford and Mercury. Most of his stuff is from the 1960s, I think, but i saw a lot of 1950s and earlier cars and trucks as well. I bought some parts there for my '66 F-100, he's a nice guy and I thought his prices were reasonable. He also has some NOS parts.

The yard is on 190th st. E (County Road 62) 1 1/2 miles east of Hwy 52. Telephone 651-437-6787. He's open during the week and on Saturday mornings.

Ive known Kenny DeGroot since I was a kid. He sells stuff to me but I dont know about people he doesnt recognize. Ive seen other people there buying stuff but they all seemed like friends. Not to crazy about the way his old yard is run today. I guess times change. About 15-20 years ago french lake was great. They still have tons of stuff but you can usually get it for the same price delivered to your door off e-gay.
