I've been off work since July 3rd. 6 months off has been nice, but it also has been to much togetherness with the wife , it's time to go back to work. I will be working at Waterloo Industries, they build toolboxes, http://www.waterlooindustries.com/ in the tool & die shop. It's only 10 miles from home, right past my last job, and pays the same as the last job. My last job was a CNC operator at Gardner Denver. They overtimed you to death, I'm glad they decided I needed a change. I'm looking forward to building something with my hands again,and not just pushing a ****on. The last job had no satisfaction of a job well done. I hope this one will. I take pride in what I do, and like to see the finished product. Tomorrow I will find out what I have gotten myself into. Must be nice to be comfortable enough to take 6 months off. I'm college educated with 2 bachelor's degrees....and I couldn't afford to take 6 days off. Perhaps I should have stayed at the machine shop years ago. Congratulations on the new gig.

I am giving my 2 weeks notice tomorrow and starting a new job on the 14th! my new job is walking distance, and more money so I am pretty happy....no more $400.00 a month in fuel and 2 and a half hours af driving in Los Angeles.....Good luck with your new job John
The 6 months off wasn't a free ride. I was able to collect unemployment, the first time I've done so in over 30 years, and I sold off some prized possessions that I've had for more years than I care to mention, to pay the bills. I put in a resume at this place in August. It took them this long to call me. I handed out a lot of resumes with no responses. I live in a small town, so the fact that I was let go seems to have followed me around. Dean

Gots me to thinkin, now that it's just ticked over to 2008 I've been pushin CNC ****ons for 15 years now - Holy ****! if you'll excuse my French. Least I only program and tool set 'em, some other ****er gets the dissatisfaction of pushin the ****ons all day long. Good luck in your new job. Just remember, if ya don't enjoy doin it, don't do it.

Well they just laid off 200 people starting today. Since I'm "skilled" labor they could still hire me. My first day went well. Unfortunately nobody knows what they're doing. I showed up at 7am, set in the front office for an hour because nobody knew what to do with me. Finally the day shift supervisor showed up and showed me around the plant because he didn't know what to do with me. After he ran out of things for me to look at, he pawned me off on the HR gal. I built a slide of some kind today, they didn't tell me what it was for. After I finished that they told me to help this other guy change some dies, only he disappeared for 45min, so I just walked around. When he did show up, if I asked him something he just said I'm waiting for 3:30, That's quitin time. Unfortunately the work force in America has gone down the toilet. Can you say China? Then these same people cry the loudest when they lose there jobs. Oh well, all I can do is my best, and go home at night knowing I did a good job. At least it's clean. Dean
a lot of place that have been laying off a lot are so razzled that they arent prepared when bringing new folks on. hopefully things will get better when you get dialed in. it's always tough being an FNG in a new place-- especially when nobody gives a good welcome. Man, the comment about the work force in America hurts-- cause i see it a lot too, throughout. I really hope that it doesnt take hunger, uprising and drastic extremes before we have change. Things need to change drastically in America-- as we are riding down our past legacy and getting our ***es handed to us in globalization. I spend a lot of time traveling the world-- and believe i see it clearly... Enough preaching. This topic bums me out. Have a better day at work tomorrow -scott noteboom
I know what you guys mean, 10 year machinist/moldmaker/toolmaker and I've been layed off nearly the entire year after my company opened its shiny new Malaysian plant and 30 toolmaker jobs got sent over there...best of luck Dean, I'm gonna try my hand in the construction biz this month...
Congrats on the new job! I'm really trying this year for a new job. No more saying I'm gonna do it and then putting it off. In fact, I just finished polishing up my resume like 10 minutes ago!
