Hello, I have stud welder dent puller but the slide hammer end piece that it came with does not work well at all ! It's one of those that has the round ball to hole the stud in place. But it never holds it . So I'm asking for your help with ideas to resolve the problem ! I'm told there is another system on the market thats a ''Twist-On Twist-Off Slide Hammer''. So if anyone could help me in finding a new tip for my slid hammer, it would be greatly appreciated !! It so suck having the tool i need and spending all that money on it and not being able to use it because of that stupid piece ! Thanks so much for your help !
I use a unispotter similar to the one in the link below, uses a screw on puller and you can get a clamp to pull mutiple pins at once, its runs a lot but well worth it. you have to make sure the metal is clean in order for the studs to spot weld nicely to the panel....when you are done use snippers to pop the pin off, make sure not to create a hole when taking the pin off. http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/hs4500.html have fun
I work one pin at a time over a 2 x 4 and vice grips. I just slide the 2 x 4 up to the pin and clamp the vice grips on and bend it over on the round part on top of the grips. Using the board as leverage. You can bend the stud over and tap on the crown of the dents while pulling the dents. I feel like I have much more control of the metal than bomb dropping a slide hammer. Hope this helps at all.
should be easy to fab one up...couple pieces of steel and a few nuts n bolts.... the puller that came with mine was the wheel type too instead of the screw type, and mine's a uni-spotter...guess mine was the cheap line, lol...I got used to it. Ya gotta kinda push the little wheel down with your thumb as you pull outwards, I only had them turn loose on me the first couple times I used it.
Ya the one i have is the one with the little wheel too . Mine keep slipping can't seem to get it to grip at all ! Do they not just sell the tip/head for the twisting type . I'm guessing that it would grip better ?
If you can, get the slide hammer made by the dent fix company , i've had my stud welder for at least 18 years and have never had any problems with it. Your local automotive paint store should be able to get it for you.
