I figure I can make poorly fitting parts as well as Howell can, so I usually make my own.

Just keep welding on metal til you get there

I bought them before I had the tools/knowhow to make them, I'm still mad though.

It looks like your going to have to add some material to them to make them fit, or just make your own if you have the tools.

  7. i haven't heard great things about their stuff but one thing to consider is the tolerances on the orginal cars. You get plus or minus 1/8" anywhere on my T when comparing one side to the other ...

for the part you showed i'd cut it in half and move the curve closer to the pilar. Then fill in with a strip. that will get you close enought to finish the correction by adding some material by welding.

I was about to order a set of these along with some other panels I need. Now I am having second thoughts. I also need the rear quarters, door skins, and the filler panel below the rear trunk lid. Any idea how these fit?

I just posted on this topic yesterday. Howell's that is. Their customer service ****s!! The recent patches I have gotten ****! Nothing but a h***le. The most recent panels I received were the 32 truck corner patches. They were terrible. I wouldn't have had a big problem with it except they don't answer the phone and don't return emails and if you DO get through they just promise you something and string you along. I have taken my business elsewhere and I pay a little more but I get a quality peice within a reasonable amount of time and someone to ***** at if they are wrong. :) Just my experience. I am sure some people have been happy with them.

Well it isn't as easy as just adding metal, as the gap is 1/16" at the top and 1/8" at the bottom and the arc in it doesn't even fit the same!

For those guys who've bought them and haven't installed them, wait till you get it cut and ready to tack!!! Then the firewall flange is 1/4" short as well!!!

I can tell you the Rear pan fit fine, but I haven't gotten to my other patch panels yet!

I bought cowl patches & an RPU back panel from Howell's 4 years ago & the stuff fit like a glove. I had the rear panel R&R'd in under an hour.

This was 4 years ago though...

  18. I had problems with an EMS rear pan for my 38, it was a good 3 inches too narrow and none of the swage lines matched up!
For any Aussies out there AVOID 'Old Tin' A model parts.
I was guaranteed they were the same as original parts. When I got my RPU body rear it was almost an inch deeper on one side than the other, the swage at the top was 1/4 inch too deep on one side and 1/4 inch to shallow on the other, the curve on the body left an inch gap in the center of the door.
I was told that the swages in the back would be the same as original A, not likely, there were two horizontal swage lines that once went completely across the rear section. So that they ended about 5-6 inches from the side's they were hammered flat with no shrinking!
Then to make things worse it was so twisted that sitting flat one side sat a full foot higher!
I complained and they took no notice, had a mate who is well known and owner of one of our biggest hot rod shops contact them about it letting them know if they didn't fix it every one would know about it.
They sent another but it was not much better than the first, just not as twisted. **** 'Old Tin'.

  19. I had the same problem with the 26/27 lower cowl patch panels I got from Howell's. I put them in but I was not satisfied. Don't have a fix worked out yet. I'll post something when the job is done.

I can vouch for John (mcc7) - posting number 15 on this topic. He does really nice work and can build you any piece you want. He made and installed the panel under my trunk lid on my 26 T coupe and it turned out REALLY NICE!!!!! A good guy too, no h***les.

Ordered a t decklid fit great but they are difficult to get a hold of
and it took nearly 7 weeks to get it! Every time I called they said it
was shipped but they were never able to get me a tracking number
I the future I would try another source.
