Do you intend to re-fit the chrome side trims to go on the car? It would make a difference to how you would handle the scallops.

Here's a start, but it comes with a few suggestions. When you say "paint it", do you mean "paint it" or "Rattle Can"? I say do it right, or don't do it at all. No need to change it for change sake. It's already "good enough". Might as well make it better. Ya dig?

Get the bodywork done, shiny up that chrome, get the side trim back on, whiten those walls, and hows about getting it a little lower to earth. I went for subtlety. Maybe a metallic champagne with slightly more gold to accentuate the body lines. Lengthen the rear spear to really pronounce how long the car is. The longer it looks, the lower it will look. Gold flake roof, but all within the same color family.

No offense but I'd lose the 'out of proportion' scallops, paint it pearl cream with a gold flake top maybe add some panels with 'freak drops', add some astros,a white tuck and roll with gold piping and slam that biotch!!. -stick

I AM IN ABSOULUTE LOVE WITH THIS PICTURE!!!! i plan on doing the body justice and REALLY painting it, right now its rattlecanned and every time i go into the garage i just get a little depressed, oh and yes i plan on putting the rear spear back on and finding something else that i can cut to make a end spear for the rear doors (if that made sense, a short little end piece of trim that just finishes the long rear quater trim) THANKS GUYS I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!

  10. I'm with the rest of them, the black, even if well done, will look kinda "black with red wheels" on a 4dr.

Use the lime-gold color and flake the roof, then use the same lime-gold and grass green fogged scallops and flames on a new Chrysler vanilla shake body, then add some chrome wheels.

How close to the ground is it right now? I'm not talking about the body, I'm talking about the front suspension and crossmembers.

I'm guessing that you have about 4" under the lower control arms.

If you go too much lower, you will have to start notching the frame to maintain a comfortable ride - but then your suspension will be able to travel to the point that it will smack the ground (hard) when you are driving over bumps or dips. This can be especially fun on the freeway (going 80).

Not that it hasn't been done a thousand times before... you just need to be aware of what you are getting into.

If you want adjustable suspension on the el cheepo - try air shocks on schrader valves and carry a 10 gal. air tank. Fill up at the gas station or with a home compressor. Then you can hack some more out of your springs..

Airbags done right is the real answer, though. Killer ride, and you can lift it when the going gets rough.

    Nice car man.

    Good point.

The very car in question I got before it was scrapped, daily drove for years and put about 394,857 different engines and transmissions in it...driving it through snow, rain, summer....you get the point. I bought it not knowing anything and made all my mistakes on that before moving to a daily chopped 50 Merc 2 dr. Glad I did.

Then when my younger cousin got his license I gave it to him, put yet 2 more drivetrains in it for him in my free time, just so he could get back and forth to work. Then sold it to Bob Ohio.

But, I didnt create an awfully ASS 1980's photoshop of my old car...so I guess I'm not a "doer".

    Good one...

Don't do it wrong. You will fuckup the car and it will cost double to get it done right. Do your homework and talk to locals that have shops. In So Cal, having a GOOD shop bag a car like your will cost from $4500 to $6000. That is if you take them a car that was not previously bagged.

There is more to consider than just the corners...
The drive shaft will hit the bottom of the car. The exhaust will have nowhere to run. The trunk will have to be re-skinned (or the fumes will kill 'ya). The seats may have to be "adjusted" for the new drive shaft tunnel. The wheel wells may have to be removed or reshaped - and they are sometimes structural to the car. The gas tank or oil pan may be too low. I would suck to drag through either.

When I lowered my pickup, I opted to lower it as low as I could and still be high enough so I wouldn't smack the ground often. I still scrape sometimes when rolling over speed bumps or through dips.. It was lowered 7" and I have about 3" of clearance from the bottom of the engine crossmember to the ground. The rear frame was C-notched. It was lowered using parts from Classic Performance... in their shop. (here is the article if you want to see it- FRONT: http://classictruckworld.tenmagazines.com/articles.asp?page=tenarticle&aid=3611
    REAR: http://classictruckworld.tenmagazines.com/articles.asp?page=tenarticle&aid=3584).

For me I wanted it low - and I didn't want the hassle of air suspension.

1.5 coils out, or maybe 2.5....I forget.

BUT...no blocks. In fact helper springs in back as well. Those rear leaves are bowed out in the wrong direction.

That tank was lowered by Father Time himself. Well, and me catching air a few times.
