Im doing a 57 truck for a guy he wants to keep the 6 lug wheels but needs a higher gear ratio . My question is what is the width of a 70s to 80s chevy 4 wheel drive rear flange to flange? stock axle is 62 inches.
about 63-64 if I recall right...it's just a little wider. 64-69 is about the same as the 57 rear. 70-up is wider.
Toyota Rear Axle Widths: 55" wide, '79-85 4wd trucks/4runners - 6 Lug 58" wide, '86-95 4wd trucks/4runners - 6 Lug 56" wide, '79-95 2wd Trucks - 5 Lug 60.75" wide, '95.5-up Tacomas/4runners - 6 lug 66.75" wide, '93-98 T100 trucks -6 lug
Chevy pickup, 10 bolt or 12 bolt. Right close to 63 3/4" wheel flange to wheel flange. Replacement internal parts are getting more expensive for the 12 bolt stuff. The last 10 bolt 4wd rears from leaf spring front trucks had 30 splines axles, basically the same strength as the 12 bolt rears. Axle length stays the same with 2wd and 4wd trucks as long as it's a "square nose" truck like the '85 model.
Ok I'm am new to this so here is my question I have a 57 Chevy truck and am looking to see the rear axle lenght drum to drum on my truck. I want to do a swap with a camero rear end out of a 85 z28

try a rear end out of a GMC from '57- '64....a lot of these were automatics with higher ratios than the man trans Chevys.......
