probly a dumb question to many but ...can someone tell me how to get the brake and clutch pedal seperated from my mastercylinder??.....iv got a 52 chevy car.
The pivot pins are attached to the pedal arms. There's a plug at the front of the master cylinder, between the pedals. Remove the plug and there's a lock pin underneath. Insert a piece of stiff wire into the pin and pull it out. Both pedals will slide out the sides.
thanx friend i appreciate it....so the plug your talking about is the same as the grease fitting right?
sometimes that block that holds the pedals in is broken in half, they sell them at national chevy association dot com. i think theyre 8 bucks
There is a screw plug on the very front of the master cylinder between the pedals. Remove that screw and the block is inside. Mine was rusted in there and I had to run a screw into it and get it out with a slide hammer...with the master on the bench, of course. Fortunately, I was able to get the whole thing wiggled out from under the car stuck all together like that.
Yeah, the grease fitting is inserted into this plug. Just unscrew the whole thing and you'll see the pin.
it's more of a key-way than a pin. If you look straight down the hole it looks like a cross. If it's still greasy, you won't have much trouble getting it out, but it won't just pop out. YOu can only put a very slight bend in the wire and still get it into the keyway. I've done it under a car a few times, so it's not too hard. Once you've done it, it will make a lot more sense
instead of wire, use a small nail, but grind most of the head away until you have an something like a hook. Little bit easier to pull with than wire
There also should be a spring that holds the thing that's been described as a lock pin, it's actually round but has a key that lines up with the keyway in the shaft, this keeps the shaft from sliding out. The whole assembly should manuever rearward even though the two brake lines and speedo cable look to be in the way. Once on the bench disassembly is a breeze!
