Just made my first piece of wood for my 28 chevy. It is the bottom piece that goes on the left side from the front to the back and attaches to the frame. It looks good and only took me about 3 hours. I know I won't be able to make all of the wood because of the complicated angles and such, but I've got a start! Picts to follow Jim
Looks good!!! I had a 29 chevy sport coupe and that thing was a termite delight!!! Lots of wood in them for sure!!!
Nice,I have what i beleive is a 29 chevrolet truck sitting at my buddies farm.Man there is alot of wood in it,the whole rear cab wall is wood.Still a nice find though,it even has the original inline 6 motor in it.It does have the id plate on the firewall as well i will have to get some numbers next time i go out.I will probably end up selling it off to finance my 26 t-sedan build.
Good job man. way more dedication than me. I pulled all the wood out of mine and replaced it with 1x1 box tubing. keep'em coming...
Some more picts. I think I'm about 1/2 done with the wood. Man what a job. I think it's going ok though. Starting to line stuff up now though. Both are the inside of the car from the passenger side. I haven't got much of the passenger side done yet. Jim
looking good.. with a cherry structure your car will need some silly name, and please dont hide all this work with an interior..
Hey, That's a great showing of skill and determination, there! Anyone can yank out the wood, chop saw square tubing, and weld as necessary, but ya got some art and skill goin' there, and in cherry wood, too! General Motors/Fisher Body kept an army of people employed, up to the late thirties, growing, cutting, drying, milling and instaling wood, in their companies vehicles. Great Job! Swankey Devils C.C. I started rebuilding the doors on my 29/30 three window today with steel, one door still had most of the wood. glad to see another chevy getting built.
28Chevy there some great pics at www.chevywood.com and www.1931chevrolet.com that show the wood structures and even one of the original factory assembly jig at the 1931 Chevy site.
Here's some more picts. I have to finish the rail above the passenger side, the roof and the rear window assembly and tie it all together. I think it is going ok. I know there will be quite a bit of adjustment to finish it so it will all be tied together from front to back when I have most of the wood made. I will then make any adjustments I can. Some of the door wood is ok so I will only be replacing what I have to. Looking to have the wood finished early this spring. Jim
hows the wood coming along., any chance you have any measurements of that first piece ya did. the bottom most channel of wood
had a 36' chevy and what a nightmare! sure glad someone needed it for parts and got bailed out of it. stuck with old mopars: steel and hydraulic brakes!
