You're basing that comment on what YOU know vs what auto makers did......these are my 55 Ponchos and you can TOTALLY have a crotch shot if that's what does your fancy in. If you look at it, that glove box door sits mighty LOW and center dash, which is why I think my Star Chief's was chromed.:D The black dash has the glove box where the striping is, for ref. **dirty ol ******s dirty ol ******s**

Ahhh, I dunno, Brandy. You might catch a glimpse up the baggy shorts of your boytoy if you'd only CLEAN that glovebox door.

Chrome dashes are sweet and all but for that killer price I think I would rather go with a beautiful gloss black dash one thats so glossy it looks like a mirror. Then maybe throw some one shot lines on it. Thats just my thoughts and thats the way im gonna do my dash and I just bought the chrome dash pieces for it also. The issues with the reflections would be a ***** to Id hate to drive when the sun was reflecting off the dash.

That is exactly my plans for my black Pumpjack. Redo the dash in a SUPER deep rich black, high gloss, no stripes and then chrome the hell out of everything on it and all the window garnish.

What I can't chrome, Chili's offered to help me polish by hand.:D

4grand ??.. IF your dash would unbolt I can't imagine why it would cost that much, a bumper is only 5 hundred bucks for good chrome, i couldn't imagine 4grand unless your taking it to them, dropping it off, and they'll dis***emble every peice, chrome it, and re***emble it, and throw in a steak dinner. Maybe I'm just not realizing something. Again i'm ***uming this is for a dash that would unbolt.

A bumper unless damaged, is straight from the factory, as it was built to be chromed.

A dash is not built to be chromed, and unless you dont care about some REALLY wavy chrome (what you'd get if you just plated it with no metal finishing and copper buildup and straightening), it wouldnt be 4K.

But for a chrome shop to spend countless hours getting the dash ready so that when they chrome it, its straight, your talking big money.

Also, Advanced Plating in Nashville is slightly higher priced than other shops, but their chrome work is also probably the best in the country, its worth the extra cost.

I go to my chrome guy in Tijuana and get chrome for a real price. Im putting an order together now for me and some guys down here in San Diego. I think its like $150 for a bumper and thats filling and straightening done as well. Best thing is, turn around oh, about 2-4 days. This was a few years ago, but hes a friend of the family, so the price couldnt have changed that much, and the food is SUPERB!:D

No offence but,you have not had a bumper chromed to show standards lately have you? The last bumper that we had done was a 53 Buick rear no guards, just the bumper. It cost $1,500 and was from a 48,000 mile car.No rust,no damage.I would think that a dash alone would be in the $1,200-$2,500 range depending on condition.I'll let you know when I have my 40 Merc dash done:D.

A friend of mine has heavy metal flake on his dash and says all he can see is the reflection onto the windshield. He should start throwing a towel over it.
I agree with Mazda... a bumper cost around $1500 min.

Actually Mazdaslam.. let me think how long its been since i've had a bumper done to show standards... hmm... its been about since.. NEVER..!!.. Haha just joking man, seriously, i had both bumpers on my 62 impala chromed here in so cal, not show standards i'm sure, but it looked like new chrome to me!! I'm not a Show Judge, or a car show contestant, so i'm sure you guys get your **** done real pretty like, but my chrome looks good and i'm sure it'll hold up for a while cause all my other chrome has held up for years. I payed $160 for each bumper, he did one small repair on a ding. Now compared to $1,500, I believe I got a SUPER GREAT deal, I just might call up my chrome guy and buy HIM a steak dinner!!.. And his chrome is good quality, dont let the price lead you. All work by him has been nice for years, he does alot of work for alot of friends, and has been in busniss for longer than i've been alive I think. Let me just say one thing though, my car isn't a show car. Its just something I cruise around in, oh yeah, and this was a year ago i got them done.

It didnt originally. That was a change made to it when it was restored (I think Barry Mazza did it in chrome, but it may have been done later by Kurt McCormick).

Originally the dash was body color, with just the glove box door and speaker grill chromed, which was how it came from the factory. Also, the insert with all of the gauges (all 9!) is not original to the original Ogden version. That info was shared with my by Herb Ogden himself.

I know your not in so cal, but the guy who did my work was Abalonio. Here's his shop info. Tell him I gave you his info. Maybe he'll match the price that he gave me on my 62 impala bumpers.

I'm waiting to hear back from Tom at Advanced Plating. I sent him the photo of the dash and asked for a rough idea cuz I'm curious. I'll post the amount once I hear back.

I may be delving into sacreligious areas but if it is that labor intensive to straighten a dash out might that alsa mirrachrome be an adequate alternative? might be quicker to straighten out the imperfections with mud then to metal finish one. it seems when the black undercoat is done really really well, the results after all is said and done are pretty good...that said it'll never really be chrome

Not that anyone in this thread really cares, but I think chrome dashboards are illegal due to that very fact of the sun blinding the driver. I don't know if the rule is grandfathered to where it applies to old cars or customs. The D.O.T. (that's Dept. of Transportation for those of you in Hootersville) made car manufacturers change ANY chrome in the dashboard area, including wiper arms, to a satin finish that did not reflect the sun. I think this happened in the late 60's or early 70's.

But who gives a S+++. May look okay in a photograph on in a car show, but damn...that's too bright for my tastes. Spend the money on the engine or bumpers, but **** man, the dash?!! That's nuts.

Hey mcload, you're kind of a buzzkill man. :D

The bullet is no joke, that Plymouth has been around for a while. Guy drives it everywhere and it is beautiful.

I'd love to have a chrome dash, I really like them in the 40s cars.

Well, I've been called worse, so thanks for going lightly. The Plymouth does look like its been highly detailed and I'll bet it is impressive. No offense intended, but I just can't help the visualization of the emergency room attendant pulling that lens out of his chest.
Just an opinion; to each his own. Hmmm...buzzkill....I kinda like that!

I agree with mcload, I'd kill myself. Driving on a bright snowy day like I had today is a killer.
