Hello my name is Neil and I own a 56' Ford Fairlane. I've had this car for about a yearnow and am gonna get around to fixing it. I was in the process of bagging it and makeing a led-sled. I've come around to go Gasser first. If anyone has any comments or suggestions I'm open to here them. Thanks Neil.

I'm not much of a ford man...but those cars make killer sleds, man.
considering what you have to do to build it into a gasser....if you have a doubt in your mind about it potentially becoming a Custom...don't do it.

Or do what I do. buy 2 and build both. :D

  9. Hey Neil! That body style just begs to be raised in the front! Ditch the front bumper and....anyway, my vote is gasser!!:D P.S. Have fun, enjoy!

There's a real good 56 on the cover of an old Hot-Rod mag (about the time street freaks were popular 70's) that is two tone white and Petty blue, nose high with slot mags I believe. I have always loved that car. Wish I had that issue, someones got to have a pic somewhere.

O-man,,what was that car called?? Was it the Shark??...I wanna say it was a 56 Ford with Packard taillights, shaved & molded roll pans...It was a kustom that ended up as a gasser and a bad @ss one at that...I think it had a injected 430 Lincoln too...Somebody has to have a pic of it and if that doesnt inspire you....Ur DEAD!!

Damn,,its driving me nuts...It was in like Dice Magazine, Rolls & Pleats or one of those....

As for hopping it up, How does a 700+ HP BB Ford sound? I've had the engine for awhile and it is a monster. I would also like to put a manual in it but it doesn't fit my budget. BB C6 is a little easier to come by. Thanks for the good comments guys. Neil.

I agree with the others on the gasser setup, except I suggest not using a toploader, but rather a close ratio 3650 Tremec 5 speed. You could run 4.30:1 axle gears with 30" cheaters and still turn only ~2300rpm at 75 mph.

  29. Well there ya go. I was gonna ask, but you already answered- it sounds like you have an engine that needs a home. Did you buy the airbag stuff already? Have you ever driven that car? My guess is no. I like the approach of getting the car going. How about making 2 lists, and checking them against each other? As in, if I went the sled route I'd use these parts; if I went the gasser route I'd use these parts. See if it's possible to get it driving by building it with the parts that are common to both, as much as possible. In this case you wouldn't go with airbags or a straight axle front end, at first. After it's driving, then you can upgrade/change to what you want.

By the way, the Starsky stripe on the driver's side doesn't look quite right for some reason :p.

    Thanks,
    Kurt
