another glass cutting question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by The Darkhorse, May 22, 2004.

  1. hey guys i was wondering if you can take gl*** out off a car and cut it to fit a chop or do you need a new peice of gl***.
i was asking someone about the subject and they said automotive gl*** can only be cut with a laser or it will break cause of some safety feature in the gl***.
i thought it sounded kind of dumb so i ask the board for an answer.

  3. since you are the expert on the subject i was reading about the safety gl*** that is in between the other two layers.
i was wondering if it could be cut and if so what with.

If it is laminated flat gl*** it can be cut fairly easy.If it is laminated curved gl*** it can be cut but its a *****. If its tempered gl*** 4 git it unless the laser thing really works.Laminated can be cut with a regular hardware store gl*** cutter.Draw yer lines with a sharpie then trace it with a well oiled gl*** cutter. Run out that score then flip the gl*** over and score that side and run it out.Once you have sucessfully cut both sides make relief cuts in the waste part of your gl***.At that point gently bend over your waste pour methanol in the crevise which will soften the plastic and cut it with a razor blade.I highly recomend you have the edges of th gl*** dress for ease of installation and less chance of breaking the gl*** during.
