Did a quick search on the HAMB and didn't find what I needed, so here goes... I'm starting a build on my 8BA Flattie I'll be putting in my 29 Ford truck. I'd like to put A/C on this and use a serpentine system. I know Tom Roberts does a serpentine kit, but has someone run a kit like this WITH A/C with success? Overheating isses? Fitment? Other issues? Thanks!
Joe Abbin has some serpentine stuff for his blower, but don't think he has any setups for A/C. You should be able to accomplish the same thing with V-belts though...
I have a customer that designed a serpentine belt system for an 8BA that can be setup with an A/C compressor. Call me at 559-592-2707 or send me a PM. Dan Marvin, Owner Exeter Auto Supply
Can a flatty power an AC compressor?...... Anyway here's a link from Hot Rod that is pretty comprehensive on sources http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hdrp_0511_ford_flathead_engine/flathead_parts.html
"Can a Flatty power a A/C, Of Course....No problem..I ran one on a 59ab stock and never knew when it came on.. No over heating problems.. Duane
why bother with the flatty if you are going to put serpentine belts and AC in your (street) ROD. might as well just run a late model small block......
Yeah, RevKev6, I knew I'd catch a ration for wanting to run a serpentine ... As far as runnin' a SBC? NEVER! Heck, I'm even struggling with probably runnin' a S-10 rear end instead of a Ford 9". However, I see your point. My idea is that since you have to mess with trying to match up the correct pulleys and play mix and match and run two belts, why not go ahead and just do the serpentine and be done with it? I'm pushin' 50 and frankly I want some bit of convenience and lower maintenance. Plus, living in the high desert of western CO where it gets over 100 in the summer I want A/C. When I was growing up in So Cal in my teens and 20's about 15 miles from the beach it was never really an issue...but now?...
