!!!Texas City UGLY Truck H.A.M.B. Thrash!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Jan 8, 2008.

  1. Become famous! Be a part of the ugliest truck at The Roundup!

I made a list and said to myself, "Self, you gotta lotta **** to do before Roundup!" So Saturday after next, Jan. 26, will be the first official UGLY Truck H.A.M.B. Thrash. I'll cook burgers and dogs, and I'll supply a reasonable amount of beer for those who actually help. ($$$ is tight, still have parts to buy). If you just want to watch, BYOB. I have A/C in the garage, but I doubt we'll need it. I try to take good care of my help. I have welder, torches, air tools, etc., and an electric beadroller on the way, pretty well stocked on tools, but feel free to bring anything we may need.
This may be done by then, depending on Louie S. and Unclee's help:
    1. Pick up axle and spindles Saturday.
    2. Finish weld frame after mocking up axle.
    3. Mount wishbones to new axle, and make split wishbone mounts.
We will proabbly start on this below by the 26th.:
    4. Mount spring shackles and lever shocks.
    5. Modify the '32-'34 spindles to fit '40 Ford brakes.
    6. Rebuild wheel cylinders and install my brakes.
    7. Mount master cylinder and plumb brake lines.
    8. Finish welding rear trailing arms and rear air bag mounts.
    9. Bolt cab to rear frame tabs, and make front frame tabs.
    10. Brace under dash and mount seats, cowl steering box and steering column.
    11. Finish pitman arm.
    12. Re-build and install motor.
    13. Fab trans mount tabs and install trans.
    14. Find a driveshaft, cut it down, an mate it from a Chevy Turbo 350 to a Ford 8.8 rearend.
    15. Mount grille shell.
    16. Fabricate extensions where fenders used to be (cardboard is there now).
    17. Buy headlights (all lights really) and mount.
    18. Bolt bed to frame.
    19. Buy fuel tank and mount under bed.
    20. Mount battery.
    21.Wire everything(wont be much).
If I get all that done:
    1. Get a compressor and hook up airsystem (may have to fill the tank at gas station and run them without a compressor).
    2. Make up and upholster some door and rear cab wall panels.
    3. Quickie paint job.
    4. Hook up stereo.
    5. Hook up underdash A/C.

Once I get the parts this weekend, I will probably be out there every night, I get home about 4:30, if anyone wants to come help, I'd appreciate it. RSVP 281-216-2775

    Richard,
If I am done with Mom's house, I will come help. I think we can rob some stuff off the 66 parts truck that you need. I know you could use the battery box and maybe the wiring??

Shane you need to work on your junk as well. Richard, I'll be on the otherside of Austin that weekend, which I think is closer than my house to your house, HA.

I should be in town that weekend and able to help out. If you need anything machined before then let me know. Not sure what your plans are for the exhaust, but I can bring my tubing bender up if needed.

I know. Maybe I'll bring it too....

  18. Actually Drew I have some flanges but no tubing. I do need to make some headers.

Shane, we can multi-task. Do you have a small plasma? Mine is huge and flips 30amp breakers.

would you happen to have any of the fender parts left you may want to get rid of i really need a set of 39 plymouth or dodge rear fenders hard to find it would seem any way i like the truck and the idea hop all works out to you outline hell i know i would be there if i didn't live 2500 miles away i think ill steel your idea and try that **** on some of these california dudes........hah hahaha

    good luck looks good

  22. I started with a bare cab.

  23. Radiator is mounted. I welded it after taking photo. I want to mount the grille shell where it can tilt forward slightly for access to the cap. Any ideas?

The shroud will be attached to the radiator mounts and remain in place while tilting the grille.

What kind of headers do you want to build? Let me know the tubing size(s) and I will see if I can roundup some tubing.

  25. I want to build some lakes like you built, my flanges have round holes, I'll measure them tonight. I will order some cones from Speedway, isn't that where you got yours?

  26. This is the style header I want, with straight tubes leading to the cone. Should be a lot easier to build than curved tubes, and I think it will work better, considering the width of the firewall.

The straight ones would be much easier to build - only one bend in the front pipe. I used the 4" ones from speedway.

I miss the thrash from last year... not doing much this year because i have to much stuff going on with hosting the Texas Thaw next month. Good luck and can't wait to see the finish product in Austin

  30. Anybody got some steelies and spider caps/rings I can borrow for a few months, to see if I like them? I'll paint them for free, and buy them after the Roundup if they are for sale. If nothing else, just to take some photos.
