can I safely weld on my metal body with all the wiring installed, etc. as long as I ground close to the weld? I'm only filling some small holes on rocker panel....tia

shouldn't be a problem as long as the battery is disconected.

I think you only have to be concernd if you have a computer in the car.
Make sure you don't burn the wires either.:)

  4. ...i welded trim holes up without disconnecting the battery and it didn't fry anything. i've heard it can, but i was curious and nothing happened.

If you have an electronic distributor, I'd remove it.

If you by chance have electronic ignition, make sure you unplug the dizzy and any other control device

If you are welding on a door ground on the door. That way you wont arc through the hing. Same as welding on the hood ground the hood.

  8. yeah , a friend of mine who has a body shop uses one on late models with electronics while welding . if you don't have that stuff i wouldn't worry

  9. ...i guess maybe telling us what your welding on would help:eek:. but really it takes only a second to disconnect the battery eh?!

I put a roll cage in a geo metro.. the local dirt track had a front wheel drive subcompact cl***. I disconnected the negitive terminal and didn't have a problem. Ground next to the weld, like you said.
